<p>I am considering petitioning for the Honors program. My GPA is just above a 4.1 according to how my school calculates and well over a 4.2 by UF's calculations. However, my SAT score is an 1860 and my ACT composite is a 28. My English/Writing/Reading subscores for both tests are high 600s/33-34. However, my math/science scores bring down my composites. Is it worth it for me to apply?</p>
<p>Also, besides smaller class sizes, are there any other advantages to Honors? How do Honors classes differ from regular classes?</p>
<p>It is definitely worth it for you to apply. I am going to as well, although I only received a 27 on my ACT (28 if they super score). I have a 4.5 GPA (about a 4.9 by UF’s calculations), didn’t take the SAT, but I have taken rigorous courses ALL throughout high school. Since my freshman year, I have been Dual Enrolled and have taken about 30 college classes and will be graduating in May with both my high school diploma and AA. I’m sure you have things that make you stand out, too. It’s worth a shot!</p>
<p>In regards to the advantages of the Honors program, you have the choice to live in Hume Hall (the only Honors dormitory on campus). The rooms are bigger, the dorms are a lot nicer, it’s a newer building with newer amenities. You will be surrounded by people who are of your intelligence level! Also, Honors classes differ from regular classes in this respect: as an incoming freshman, you will be working on your Gen. Ed. requirements, just like ALL of the other freshman. In the regular classes, you would be attending a class with upward of 200 people. In an Honors class, you would be attending a class with about 20 people. This means more one-on-one time with the professor and a better understanding of the material, as you won’t have 200+ distractions to contend with. </p>
