Hello all, I'm curious about my chances of getting into the UF honors program. I'm not worried about getting accepted since my school has an 88% acceptance rate for people who apply to UF and I'm near the top of my class, though my school doesn't rank. Anyways, here are my stats

I think my essay will be good, but I'm just nervous about the other applicants. What do you think my chances are? I'll also earn an AA degree when I graduate form high school, as I attend a collegiate high school based on a community college's campus. Should I retake the SAT in December and just hope my scores are higher?

I don’t know how anything works regarding the AA degree. You may be put in a different pool than typical freshman, as most freshman don’t have an AA degree, and I don’t know if that makes you a “transfer” student. Someone else will have to comment on that.

As far as honors, not sure if it will do you any good considering you’ll already have your AA. Honors program at UF, at least to this point, is only a 2 year program for your freshman and sophomore year. Most of the classes, therefore, relate to those first two years of school, i.e. alternative classes for things like calculus, but in an honors section, or classes that fulfill the gen ed requirements. If you were a typical freshman, you would definitely be asked to join as you have above a 2070 SAT or a 33 ACT (I think), plus the GPA. Don’t know how it works though as you say you’ll have your AA. D’s in the honors program, but she’s not completing the requirements because she came in w/ 45 hours of AP credit, and except for the honors enriched physics that she took (2060 and 2061, I think), there’s nothing else from the honors courses that work with where she is in her major. So that’s why I said, I’m not sure what honors can offer you. Probably you should email the honors program directly and ask some questions.

Hmmmm, alright. However, I dont apply as a transfer, just a freshman. Its a bit complex, but I do apply as a freshman, just with an AA. I know I’d be asked to apply, but I’m not sure if my scores are high enough to get accepted. And I know that their are very few classes I could take as honors, but I’m debating whether to retake a few of my science courses, as I received an A, but I felt as though I didn’t really learn much, and since I’m a biology major, its important to have a good grasp on science. I will email them though, and I do appreciate your help.

I got my AA in high school through an Early College program. I also applied as a freshman, but got rejected due to not having the prerequisites, i.e., they took me in as a transfer. Mind you, this is after THEM telling me to apply as a freshman. The prerequisites I needed were Calc I, II, and III, Diff Eq, Phy I and II, and Chem I and II (They never told me this either, and was impossible anyways since I played sports).

They have added this since when I applied a year and a half ago, though:

This leaves two options:
A.) They evaluate high schoolers with AA degrees as transfer students for admissions and then treat them as transfer students once they get in(No honors, can’t switch majors out of the college)

or

B.) They evaluate high schoolers with AA degrees as transfer students then treat them as freshman (Honors, major switching, etc is all good)

Both of these are terrible (thats another thread), but obviously B is much better. The only thing that would have me worried is that they want you to specify a major, which sounds like A to me.
