chances for international students with full tuition

I have 1450 on SAT and 83 on TOEFL IBT. I know my scores are super low. But if I’m paying a full-tution, do I have chance to some colleges? Preferably, in MA (Boston or nearby) , NY (NYC or nearby), or California (big cities). Can you advice some colleges pls?

I’m going to major in Computer science or IT

4.0 unweighted GPA and recommendations letter is very good.

With that SAT score, the chance is that you will NOT do well in CS major.

When you apply for CS major, your Math+CR, particularly math component is very important, and your math score is very low(I don’t know the exact number but 1450 says enough).

Also, is English your second language? Did you study in English in your high school?

yes, my english is my second language. My math score is 690.

uhwait…is that SAT score in scale of 1600 or 2400?

it’s on scale of 2400. my critical reading was 360 and writing 400

Many school will look at your toefl but personally I think you will have a serious problem in understanding in US college classes.
360 is wayyy to below the average.

Gpa? Extracurricular or awards?

I’m a professional choreographer. Won a lot of regional and national awards in different types of dances. Also I play a volleyball for my school. I do not have problem understanding. I just can’t understand critical reading stuff. It’s something I don’t see any logic in. So I can’t even find a pattern or think about the way to learn to do the critical reading…

we don’t have GPA. But I have all A’s… Also I speak 5 languages (if it is gonna help somehow for me).

What grade are you in?
If you are a junior, you still have time. Just practice A LOT for SAT. Like, everyday. There are many threads in CC that gives very good tips about SAT.
If SAT isn’t your fit, try ACT. ACT tends to be better fits for foreign people.

Also, did you take the most rigorous classes in your school? There is a HUGE difference between A in Calculus, for example, and A in Pre algebra

Yes, I will definitely try to do ACT. Just not sure if I still have time. And if I do, then to which colleges?

Use Google, find schools and see their test score range.

By the way, you shouldn’t limit yourself geographically unless it’s in the middle of midwest no one heard off.

There are good dance schools in both east and west.

I recommend Bard College, Bernard College, and Middlebury.

thank you, but scores are not enough for this colleges. also I want to major in CS, not in dance. I already gratuated from dance school.

You can try Cal Poly Pomona and SJSU in California,
You can try Wheaton and Clark (near Boston), as well as RIT, Stevens, NJIT, Drew, Fairleigh Dickinson.

@myos1634 thank you, I applied to Clark and Drew. Looking for SJSU now…

The application period for SJSU and CPP has passed for Fall 2015. You will need to apply next year for these schools. SJSU is very competitive and CS is the hardest major to get accepted. CPP is a much easier acceptance.

^internationals can apply up to very late in the Spring to the CSUs.
I agree that SJSU CS is super hard to get into but OP’s GPA may offset his SAT
somewhat.

@Gumbymom http://info.sjsu.edu/web-dbgen/narr/admission/rec-7327.11656.html this says the deadline is April 1st 2015 for fall 2015 for SJSU. I guess there are different deadlines for international students. And it may be the same with CPP … don’t really know , their website is so complicated

@MYOS1634 which CSU? you mean other than CPP?

Why SJSU CS is very hard to get into? What about other major (close to CS)? I could study Math or IT or Computer Engineering. I mean I can learn coding by myself also, so it is not that crucial for me to be in CS.
