Chances for making honors and rooming at Lechner Hall

So my SAT score easily qualifies for honors at TAMU, but i am 2 spots outside of the top 10% of my class with a GPA of 3.67 out of 4. Assuming that I am supposed apply for the honors program during my freshman orientation, what are my chances of making it into honors and how come Lechner Hall is not listed under my housing options? do i have to be admitted into honors first before i can apply there?

Your best bet is to call the honors office and ask what steps you should take. I think you can ask for consideration now.

thanks! i’ll definitely look that up

Lechner doesn’t show up as a housing option because it is only offered to students with certain academic scholarships. I’m not sure about how qualifying for honors during registration works. If that doesn’t pan out, you will be eligible to join the honors program after your first semester if your GPA is high enough

There is no application process for Honors at A&M. If you meet the requirements, you can sign up for Honors classes. Top 10% of your class is one way to qualify for Honors classes. After you enroll at A&M, you must maintain a 3.5 gpa to take Honors classes.
Anyone who is “Honors elligible” may apply for Honors Housing. I’m not sure how it will work this year, but last year there was a housing choice named “Honors Housing”, so students were not permitted to specify which of the 3 Honors dorms they wanted.
As far as getting into the Honors dorm, there is a priority heirarchy. National Merit Finalists and National Acheivement Finalists, etc., are guaranteed Honors housing if they apply by their deadline. Then the remaining spots are given to other applicants based on other criteria. Having a 4-year Honors Dept. scholarship is one way to get into Honors housing, but by no means the only way. Last year, some students were placed in Honors housing even though it was not their first choice, which I assume means that everyone who wanted it and met the criteria got in.
Hope that clears up some of the confusion.

Thanks Barfly! That was EXACTLY what i was looking for!!
