Chances for me to get into a good college? Please answer :)

Hey everyone, I'm a sophomore in high school, and I'm very anxious that I might not be able to be admitted into one of the colleges I want. So I will tell you guys a little about my academics and extracurricular activities, and maybe you guys can possibly give me some advice as to improve it or just advice you think I might need in general? I would really appreciate it :)

Right now in school I'm taking AP US History, Pre-Calculus, and 2 theatre classes, World History, Ecology and Chemistry. Also Wellness if that matters... However I will be taking AP Chinese exam without taking the class this year too, since it's my first language and I don't feel the need to take a class.

For my junior and senior year of high school, I want to take AP Calculus AB and BC, AP Psychology, AP English, and also take the AP Art test on my own (I will maybe take the AP Music Theory exam too, but I'm not sure yet). I will also take a few honors classes such as: Physics, Acting&Directing Seminar, Scene Study, Organic and Biochemistry, Humanity. Along with a few other classes such as Civics and Economics for they are required to graduate.

Now on to my grades and extracurricular activities. My GPA last year was 3.929, I only got one B in Journalism class because I was sick for 10 days...and apparently because I wasn't there in the class for 10 days I can only get a B :/ I really really love to draw, especially with watercolor and colored pencils, it helps me express things I won't do normally. I enjoy music very much; I play 5 instruments (piano, guitar, bass, drum and guzheng - a traditional Chinese string instrument), playing instruments really helps me control my emotions. I also love theatre, I enjoy acting and just being a part of a production that can maybe help people. Basically art, music and theatre are just my way of expressing myself; I feel like I can be myself truly when I do those things. And I wish that my art, my music and my theatre work can help people, can make people feel connected; I want people to know that even when they feel helpless and lonely, I would be willing to listen and I will try to understand them.

I have a few other hobbies too, such as writing letters, embroider, read and travel. I have a few pen pals from places around the world, we write constantly. I'm also a fan of Jane Austen, I got sealing wax and calligraphy pens so I can have a grasp of how letter-writing was like in her times. I read a lot and actually taught myself how to read. Also I have been to many parts of world, especially Europe and Asia. I also do some volunteer work, and am planning on getting an internship during the summer next year.

What I'm worried is that I won't be able to get into a good college I want... I want to go to England for college, for example, Bristol or Cambridge. But if it's too hard for me to go there, I want to go to Brown, Cornell or Columbia in the U.S. Am I too idealistic? Do you guys think I will have a chance to get into these universities if I get good scores on the AP exams and SAT? I don't know, I'm just insanely worried; after all they are the top schools worldwide. Any advice? Should I take more college courses or just chill out? Oh by the way, thank you so much for reading this and helping me with your precious time, I'm very grateful :)

Don
t worry too much…as a sophomore, taking those classes, that
s fabulous. Yes, the Ivies and U.K. schools are by no means easy to get into, but keep up the ood work, it looks great. You didn
t mention specific EC
s, besides volunteering and the internship…what clubs and stuff like that are you in? Any sports? All in all, looks good, just keep up the good work and try your best to get 4
s and 5
s on the AP exams, and try for an above 2000 SAT score.

Good luck! :)

Thank you so much for your answer! Oh yeah, I meant to mention sports. I’m not a very athletic person, when I was younger I had this drastic illness which basically prevented me from doing any sports throughout my childhood. Does it matter that much? Can my extracurricular activities make up for that? As for clubs, I want to join the International Thespian club, when I earn enough points. I haven’t done many volunteer work yet…I should look more into that area… Thank you again :)

No, sports doesn
t make much of a difference, just needed the specifics of clubs/sports/activities. Yes, do extracurricular
s, and remember: Quality > Quantity!

Good luck!
