Keep trying... thats my plan.. this is my last season in YMCA swimming, and swimming for my beloved team, mely sharks. so i'm going for nationals. don't think a 13 year old ever made nats on my team. the youngest is 15 or 16. I hate to leave my team for boarding school, but i think its the best for me.

Is states for YMCA or High school swimming in CT? in Mass we have districts and new englands. Why doesn't wilton go to New Englands (ymca championships)? If your on Senior II in wilton, You'll probably be in Nats on my team, because my team is so small. we swim in a 4 lane pool, but its my favorite pool in the world.
...
Be all that you can be, nothing less. my favorite quote- hopes it inspires someone.

States is for high school. Wilton's system (best to least) goes...
1) Nationals (Highschoolers+)
2) Senior I (Highschoolers)
3) Senior II (Freshman + Sophmores)
4) Gold (8th grade)
5) Maroon (6th-7th)
6) Super Squad (11 under)

Melrose is based on skill, performance, and legacies.
-Nationals I... are typically for swimmers 14 and over who made every qualifying cuts in almost every event for every meet except nationals and are aiming for national cuts, i got in because I made every cut, and team captain argued with coaches to put me in.
-Nationals... the slower half of nationals (swims in different lane) 13+ years old. they are aiming for placing at finals in New englands.
-Seniors. 11-14 years old who are aiming to break 30 in 50 free or 1 min in 100 free.
the juniors are for like 9-10s.
age group- little kids- 8 and under

The swim team at Mercersburg is among the strongest in the country. Men's Swimming
I just thought I would post the link in case you did not know. Good luck!

I'd love to apply to Mercersburg but I think 5 hours is to long a drive for my family of 5 which includes an easily bored 6th grader and a impatient 4 year old.

I think I'm just going to make it clear that I am, infact, a girl.
There seemed to have been some confusion.
So for the record, no, I do not have a Y chromosome.

Mercersburg has a great, if not the best high school swim team. I'm not that interested in mercersburg because it doesn't have any amenities besides the swim team. They have harsh policies; you can leave campus to go home for only ten weekends. Also, their academics isn't that great. Mercersburg has very limited financial aid too.

I like many other schools with swim teams a lot. Sure they're not as great as mercersburg, but that allows you to be one of the better swimmers. I swim for melrose y sharks because it's small, all the swimmers are closely knit, and that I shine through. If i went to wilton, I'll be another of the fast kids, which makes me normal. I'll be recordless and would be envying another swimmer for taking my spot on the national relay. If i got into st. georges, i'd be one of the best swimmers there and get the fast lane in their new pool.

I agree with sdkddad but I think iHerculez was very aware of how prestigous Mercersburg was. I think he was referring to his sports and how they wern't fab or how the E.C.'s he likes arn't as encouraged as possible.

Crickett.. You probably love swimming as much as i do. It's my favorite sport in the world. I like it more that football, soccer, or even lacrosse. Wouldn't you miss swimming hours each day year round? Too bad swimming is only a winter sport. What are you going to do during the summer months when school's off? I play other sports during the year, but I'd give all of them up just to swim because i belong in the pool. I don't know how to adjust to life in boarding school because their isn't swimming year round. I stopped swimming for 3 weeks because i got hypothermia and a huge gash in my elbow from footballl. I hated it so much. I went on deck to do drylands everyday while the rest of the swimmer swam, and the coaches didn't even ask me to do it.

A majority of my sports are aquatic. Basketball is the only exception. (I play water polo, too).

When your in boarding school, your allowed to use the facilities as much as you want. You can work out before school or after school or whenever it dosn't conflict. I dislocated my hip and couldn't swim. Longest 4 weeks and 5 days of my entire life. During the summer, though, I have a long-course team. Lucky me :)

I guess you can use the pool, but what about team spirit? and twenty hour long meets? Plus, when you're not on a team, you loose ambition and competitiveness because you loose your teammates; you'll have no coaches that push you til you throw up anymore. Long-course team...I swim in the summer too, but my team only has a puny 4 lane pool thats only 25 yards long. Summer ymca nationals is the nats i made so far.

A real swimmer never loses her teammates or competitiveness. Not when she's completely surrounded by them all the time. Team spirit is everywhere. SCHOOL spirit is everwhere. Quite frankly, I would not miss 20 hour meets. They're fun for the first dozen events but after that I'd rather be forced to watch The Tyra Banks show for the rest of the meet.

I don't know about you but i live for the races. Racing is one of the best parts of swimming, pain is the other. A real swimmer never looses their teammates or competitiveness, i would have to disagree. I would be no where in swimming without my teammates, so swimmers do loose competitiveness without their teammates. School spirit won't be with you on the off season, the spirit would be lost without my coach. I'm surrounded by my teammates all the time too. Once you leave your teammates, you feel awkward because no one else knows what you've been through hours each day. When people in school ask how i'm so skinny and jacked, i simply say swimming and swimming. They just laugh and say, nah its football or lacrosse because i'm a superstar in it, but thats not true. Coaches laugh at me for skipping their practices to go to swim practice and call me a wuss. Only my teammates know what it's like to swim. The school will never know what it is like to swim.

Once you're away from your old teammates, you loose a part of your family. I eat, swim, sleep, chat, and hang out together all day. Going to a school would be like getting a step brother, sister, parent(coach). Hopefully we can adjust. Wish you best of luck.

Choate has a very good swimming team. As far as your team - a friend of mine described the swimming teams (JV and Varsity) like 'cults', because the team members are so tightknit.
