Chances for Merit Aid?

Hey guys,
So I’ve got a 32 ACT and a 4.0 UW GPA. Decent extracurriculars, won some language related awards, will have taken like 7 APs by the end of HS (all in the last two years). This means I’ll be directly admitted into Kelley and Hutton! However I’m out of state and am trying to figure out if IU is worth it and how much I could get in merit aid. I know IU offers some 11k scholarship which I would love to get but don’t know if I will. How competitive is it? Are there any other scholarships that I could get (besides fry, I don’t think I’ll be able to get that one) that could help knock down the price a little? Does it matter that I took a lot of science courses and very few business related courses. My school doesn’t offer many business related classes but the few that they do I passed up for an AP science elective. Also, any thoughts on if its worth it to go to IU as an OOS?

You will probably get the $11k a year, but anything else is unlikely unless you are a minority. If you are a minority and genuinely interested in IU, take the ACT again!!! A 1-2 point increase could literally be the difference of 10s of thousands of dollars

I’m not a minority but am still planning to take the ACT once more to hopefully increase a point or two. It’s just I don’t do well under stress and wanted to know if it was crucial or not that I increase my ACT a point or two. All I want/need is the 11k. I guess I’ll stop stressing out as much if I know I have a decent shot at getting it.

Just for the purposes of IU, you are likely to get the $11k, so I wouldn’t worry about trying to improve slightly too much

The $11k should be feasible. Hutton + DA Kelley + $11k should be a pretty good OOS outcome, assuming you’re not instate in a state where you could do better cost wise or academic wise.

@turbo93 Hey I know this thread is old but do know the name of the 11k scholarship? I see that all you need to do to get considered for the Hutton merit aid is fill out the SSA but I’m not seeing anything about the 11k scholarship? Thanks

@datboigoes2skl it is called the Dean’s Scholarship

We’re instate and several of DD2’s friends and DD2 got the instate version ($8k) plus other $. The $8k instate is the Provost, and the $11k OOS is indeed the Dean’s Scholarship. Those are both grouped under ‘Achievement Scholarships’.

@turbo93 @Ocho85cinco Thank you
