My S received his admission to IU, direct admit to Kelly and Huttons Honors. GPA weighted 4.2 and SAT 1480. Only offered $9,000 merit for OOS. Bummed we didn’t get more. Offered him to apply for SSA for Huttons. Do OOS Kelley admits get any monetary offers? Can we petition for more money?
@illimom curious about ability to petition for more money as well. Received Dean’s but less than expected and less than students from my child’s HS who applied with lower stats just last year. Anyone have experience working to increase value of Dean’s (with or without providing details of competitive offers)?
Clearly this years applicant pool for Kelley is highly competitive. Would love to hear from others who have been in the same boat!
My son said the same that others we’re offered more with less scores. Honesty we were offered more from other schools based on merit. IU is his number one. Was wondering if they would match them or even bump it up a little?
@illimom same curiosity here…much more in merit from other schools.
One for $15,000 and one for $20,000… these are from other out of state offers.
I’m curious if the high offers come from schools that cost more than IU. IU is not expensive as some of the privates and can be a bargain when compared to other schools.
I can say the higher amount was from a private school and the other was from another state school in fact less expensive than IU.
I would strongly recommend applying for the SSA. I almost overlooked it (I was very tired of essays), but my parents made me apply resulting in some very generous scholarships.
@MatthieuPicard If you don’t mind sharing, how much did they grant you? I’m debating whether or not to fill out the application right now…
Similar to @illimom amounts for my DS, both from two out of state schools, one in same price range as IU and the other slightly less…making both less than IU at this juncture, with 3 more schools yet to hear from (privates)
The scholarships I received from SSA (HudsonHolland and Hutton) were about 9k a year.
I also recieved a scholarship (Fry) that covers any remaining cost of attendance. The Cox scholarship is a part of the SSA and is like Fry financially; there are quite a few Cox Scholars on campus so the chances are not terribly slim that your son/daughter would earn that one.
@illimom did you ever contact IU to discuss comparing other school’s offers? Feel free to PM me if you’d rather share that way. Thanks and happy new year!
Not yet. I was hoping to hear if anyone else was successful with asking for more money. As of now, my son is sending in his SSA to see if any more money comes in. Also, will evaluate further after we attend direct admit weekend. Happy New Year to you too!!
@IlliniMom @MatthieuPicard Do you know what scores/gpa were needed to receive the SSA? I didn’t get any information about it, and I am surprised, as I believe that my scores are towards the upper end of those accepted to IU.
@MKR2365 I think it is a 1440 SAT and 3.85 or 3.9 GPA.
Yes that’s what it is for the Huttons Honors SSA 1440 or higher SAT and 3.9 or higher GPA. He received the SSA email shortly after getting into IU.
They don’t have specific scores on the website so the only figures I could give you would be my personal scores. (1540/4.4)
Does anyone have experience with approaching IU about increasing the value of their Dean’s Scholarship? Any success? Did you provide competitive offers from other schools? If so, please PM. Thanks!
@MKR2365 check to see if he can access via one.iu.
My daughter got 3 additional scholarships via the SSA last year. Total 8K on top of the highest in-state Provost award of 8K.
