Merit scholarship estimate

Can anyone estimate what kind of scholarship/grant aid I will receive? For reference, I have a 4.3 GPA and 35 ACT. My family’s gross income is about $40,000. I am out of state and a Kelley direct admit.

You are basically a lock to get $11,000 per year. Plus, you could get a Hutton scholarship for a few thousand a year. You may get some need-based aid too, but I honestly have no clue how much that would be. If you are a minority, you have a good chance at the Fry Scholarship which is all expenses paid.

Also the Hudson & Holland for URM’s. I thought there were some Kelley specific merit awards too, one of DD2’s friends got it, Kelley Scholars or something like it?

Yeah, Kelley scholars is possible, but those scholarships are extremely limited so I wouldn’t count on it. Basically you’re guaranteed 11k and have the potential to get a full ride

Thanks for the replies! I am not a minority by the way. I’ve come to understand that I should receive 11,000 from the deans award, and possibly a few extra small scholarships, but where would this full ride you speak of come from?

Actually, I guess you have to be in-state to be a Kelley scholar. That was what I was referring to, but you aren’t eligible if you are out of state. There aren’t any other scholarships that I know of, but maybe you could get more need-based aid.

Sorry for leading you to believe that a full-ride merit scholarship was possible. I didn’t realize Kelley Scholars had to be in-state and I should’ve verified that earlier.

No need to apologize! I’ll see what all I can get. I would be willing to pay a little bit more than Ohio State, which is in state for me, considering that Kelley is a slightly better business school than Fisher.

Does anyone know when/how you find out if you received any merit aid?

@datboigoes2skl They should send a letter a few weeks after you are admitted for the Dean’s (11k) scholarship. Most other ones, including Hutton, are through the Selective Scholarship Application. They will invite you to fill that out if you meet certain GPA and test score requirements a little bit after the Dean’s scholarship is announced. Those requirements are not announced publicly as far as I know.

Once you have received some merit money, this should make you eligible for the April (give or take) Scholarship event in Indianapolis. We went there at the JW Marriot and it was a wonderful event. Some scholarships also have their own events in Bloomington (i.e. Herbert Presidential). In both cases the food was great, you get to learn more about the school, meet other students…

@iubaccounting Does this mean if I already received the big red envelope they send I’m not getting any merit aid? Or does it come separate?

@turbo93 Thanks for the information!

@datboigoes2skl I received my merit aid letter about two weeks after my acceptance letter came!

I’m not exactly sure what “the big red envelope” is, but they send merit scholarships after acceptances, not at the same time.

@ameladmission Thanks!

@iubaccounting What I meant by the big red envelope was the physical letter of acceptance that comes in a red envelope. Thank you for the info.

@iubaccounting My daughter was invited to apply for Fry. She is Hutton honors and Kelley direct admit but has only received 11,000 Dean’s scholarship to date. While we are very grateful without the Fry OOS tuition in not doable for us. She has a good stats GPA 5.19W 4.0 UW, ACT 33, 3/690 and several significant ECs. As you seem to know a bit about Fry do you think she has a chance from your experience at IU? Thank you and God Bless!

@Cubanmom3 She certainly has a chance. It’s hard to put a number on her chances, but that GPA is incredible and the ACT score is solid. I think she will probably get it, but obviously, nobody knows for sure.

Also to answer your question on the other thread, yes, Fry is hard to get. However, your daughter has very good stats and has a good chance in my opinion.

Just try to take a step back and relax about making a decision. Your daughter still has several months to decide, and you can’t make a decision anyway without all of the relevant financial information. Good luck!

Thank you @iubaccounting ! You are absolutely right. She can’t make a decision until all her acceptances and final scholarships come in. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions as I am sure you know this process can be quite nerve racking for parents. Have a wonderful 2017 and good luck at Kelley!

@Cubanmom3 No problem. If you or your daughter have any other questions about IU, I’d be happy to answer them as well.

@ iubaccounting . You are very kind…IU is her dream school but can only happen with Fry. OSU and Miami Ohio have given her great scholarships but I feel Kelley has so much to offer her and she loves Bloomington. I will keep praying :slight_smile: Thanks again people like you is why we love IU:)

@iubaccounting when will IUB release all of the merit aid for Kelley students, like the smaller scholarships & Fry? Also, would women be considered an underrepresented population in the field of business?
