Chances for Phillips Andover

I'm applying for 10th grade, and I'm kind of worried about my chances. Just wondered what other people thought.

I've gone to the same private school for ten years, and the education is definitley very good. There is a special "Ninth Grade Academy" at my school that is, from what I've heard from other friends who go to public school, very intense.

My grades are:
English: A-
Geometry: A
Biology: A
World History: A
Chinese: A
Art I: A

I was really upset about my English grade, but I'm working hard to bring it back up in the next term.

My extracurricular activities are kind of small...I'm not sure if this will be a problem?

Figure Skating (about to test Juvenile MIF)
-I love this sport and skate about 4 hours a week; I even get up at 4:30 am and drive to a different city to see my coach. I'm very dedicated.

I spend a lot of my time reading, and I think I might want to be a writer when I'm older. I also love history (my favorite subject), which seems the opposite from a lot of other people I see posting on here (no offense meant!).
I'm also fairly good at photography, but I don't have a lot of time for it.

My father is originally from Kazakhstan, and I've been there twice; I've also travled to China and Costa Rica. I love travelling, languages, and other peoples cultures. Going to a country like Kazakhstan has made me very aware to the struggles and conditions people go through all over the world, especially when your own grandparents are living that way.

I don't know if this is relevent, but I love current events and read The Economist every week...

I took the SSAT last year, and got in the 93% percentile. I'm taking it next week again.

I've studied Chinese for four years, and would qualify for Chinese 3 in public high schools. I can speak a very, very small amount of Russian.

I think I want to be either a writer (novel/magazine) or something to do with history/cryptology when I'm older.

That is basically all I can think of... I'm a nice person; I used to be very quiet, but I've mostly grown out of that. I'm still a little shy though.

..thanks!

Hi katinka…
I’m going to be TOTALLY HONEST WITH YOU, your chances are not that high bcz u have a normal application, sorry to ask but what is the interesting in all of this. Andover is looking for a story that no matter WHO you are, you do have one.

Faris, you yourself posted a chance thread about a week ago. Who are you to judge someone else ? Fact is nobody knows who will be accepted. Katinka and Faris, both of you are academically admissable; as 75% of Andover applicants are. Just sit back and relax. M10 is just around the corner.

Faris! Her stats are better than yours! So don`t try to scare your competition.
Katina, dont be hard on yourself for the A-
Good luck, BTW your ssat score is very good.
