I need some evaluation and assurance. Stanford said it takes into account what classes you have available if you aren't offered alot of AP's, but be honest. I want to go for Computer Science. I want to apply ED but I have no idea if I should.

Currently a junior
Unweighted GPA: 3.88
Weighted: I don't know yet

EC's:
National Honors Society

City Year Young Heroes, Presidential Community Service Award (100+ hours), three years
Science Club, 2 hrs/wk all school year, two years
Jazz Band, 2 years
Geek Squad Summer Academy (Not sure if I should include this in an application)
Polish Exchange Student Host, Exchange Student (Hosted and then went there)

Honors Classes: English 3 (only one available, again.)

Next year APs- AP Calculus, AP english lit (possible budget cuts may prevent this from happening, though.)
SAT: Based on practice tests, 2200 (will take actual test June).

colleges usually don’t let the school hinder your application, and you’ve done really great academic wise and have good extracurricular. mit and Stanford are reaches, upenn match, and cmu low reach
good luck!

Stanford- reach
UPenn- reach
CMU- match
MIT- reach

you have great stats and are a great applicant but 3 out of those 4 are looking for a higher gpa and even possibly a higher SAT. There are still great schools that would be a great match for your like CMU.

You probably should’ve played the top schools stupid game and start a bogus non profit organization lol. Your stats are great and your SAT scores based on practice shows that you’re pretty good. I didn’t mark MIT, Stanford, and UPenn as reaches because you’re not good enough. I marked them as reaches because those school ask for you to be out of this world. My cousin had a perfect SAT score and a 4.2 out of a 4.0 and STILL got turned away from Stanford (he goes to Cal Tech now though.) Just work hard and try to make your applications as great as you can. I’m sure you’ll do fine. Good luck!

I forgot to mention - I took my SAT II’s. Didn’t get results yet, but I think I got a perfect or upper 700 on Chemistry (since all the questions were relatively easy, having taken AP Chem), an upper mid 700 on the Math Level 1, but the math 2 Im sure I bombed because I didn’t know any of the material. How will that affect my chances?

^^^Also, just making sure, I’m applying to CMU for /computer science/. Just making sure that you are saying my chances for that are good, since I hear that is fiercely competitive.

Stanford: Reach
Do you have any ECs that make you stand out as a person who wants to major in Computer Science(Internship that relates to programming etc, Game/APP developer)?

I don’t have any specific EC’s that make up a computer science career, other than Geek Squad Summer Academy, but that’s for like 6th graders through tenth. It’s not an in depth program.
I’ve done a lot of independent study I can cite, like teaching myself Java and HTML, but as for tech in general theres a lot I have to show for it through reading and having a lot of knowledge. Ray Kurzweil, the director of engineering at google, wrote some of my favorite science books to date, but I have no idea how to convey how serious I am about that.

MIT-Reach
Stanford- Reach
U Penn- Reach
Carnegie Mellon-Match

You have a very good application, but the Ivies are just that competitive. Wait, only U Penn is an Ivy. Stanford and MIT are that competitive too. Be proud of a 2200, but this is still a bit below the Ivies. You stand a great chance for Carnegie Mellon, however.

You obviously very talented in maths. Therefore I believe you will have a great chance for these colleges and universities. Your extra curriculars are great and reflect your interests. Colleges will definitely realize that. You seem very well rounded and your SAT scores are fantastic. I wish mine could be equally as high. The only thing I would say is to continue taking challenging courses and maybe do some SAT II’s.

Everything is adding up for you. However, in order to stand out for Stanford, MIT, etc, and the ivies as well, you need to have that “wow” factor. That one thing that you can put on ur app that says, woah no one else has that. If you have that priceless entity, then your chances sky rockets. Make sure that it is in your “nice” or “passion” that is demonstrated by your app to make sure that your app has flow and strong consistency.
