Chances for Summer 2012.

Hi, thanks for reading this! I will be applying July 1st of this summer for the summer 2012 term and was wondering if any of you guys could chance me!

My stats are:
Recalculated GPA: 3.6
ACT: 28 superscored
EC's: SADD, Muse Machine, Key Club, and a part-time job (25-30 hours)
Location: Alabama

Thank you!

Bump…

Not a chance.

You are marginal for instate and not likely but not impossible for OOS.

Oh, even for summer term? What else could I do to improve? I have some community service as well. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Are you taking any Honors/AP/IB/Dual Enrollment courses? Or is that GPA with regular courses? It makes a difference.

Well, she said recalculated, so obviously she is taking weighted courses. But why would it matter if she did or didnt. Isnt a recalculated 3.6 the same as a person who never took anything but a regular course?

Well if everyone thinks I have no chance, even though I’m in the average zone for their freshman class, what do I need to improve to better my chances?

SFHS2012grad, how have you recalculated your GPA?

What is your class rank? Have you taken calculus?

Actually, using a 4.0 scale, 50 % of those accepted had a GPA of 3.75 or higher, 28% had a 3.5-3.74 and the avg GPA was 3.76. This is from the Common Data Set for the class that entered fall 2010.

Using the FSU recalc GPA, the middle 50% accepted had a 3.5-4.1 academic GPA. Given that you are OOS, you are at the bottom of the 25-75% overall, and likely in the bottom 25% if JUST OOS students are compared. It is much harder to get in OOS. Your ACT is at the higher end, with the 25-75% having 25-29 ACT composite.

Strength of schedule is very important to FSU as well. They look at a higher ACT and a lower GPA as a student who might not be applying themselves and might not do as well when let loose on a Division I campus with a lot of distractions.

Whatever the situation, remember that GPA’s will slowly increase with each application cycle. I believe the bottom of the middle 50% range for 2011 was a 3.6 and 2012 is likely to increase as well.

Still, I would advise against using fall data for a summer applicant. The standards are different.

I was joking, I believe you have a decent chance getting in. I’m not sure if it matters/applies for incoming freshman, but what is your intended major?

My D got in for summer with alot lower stats than these, but she is instate. I think you have a pretty good shot. JMO. Good Luck!

I’m sorry guys, but I think you are way over estimating FSU’s admission criteria.

50% of admitted students had a GPA lower than 3.75. Nearly 75% of admitted students had ACT scores between 24 and 29. This individual is on the upper end of both of these qualifications.

The only thing which might preclude your admission is the fact that you’re out of state. Indeed, you will be accepted to any public university in the state of Florida with these stats, disregarding the fact that you’re out of state.

They wouldn’t be accepted to “any” public university in Florida- UF would reject them almost 100% guaranteed just based off the person’s GPA.

I agree that generally people here seem to be overestimating the admission criteria pretty frequently, but without knowing more information it’s really difficult to say.

A 3.6 GPA looks good at first, but if it’s in basic classes it’s not seen the same to FSU as a 3.6 that’s in Dual Enrollment, AP, or IB courses.

I have never taken basic classes. All the classes that I took were at the highest levels. My old high school had courses where their highest was only college preparatory, but at my new high school, they have honors for all of their classes which I have signed up for. So, I have never been in the regular classes.
