Thinking to apply as undecided or engineering, i don't know (I am going to be a senior):

gpa is kinda bad i guess, because i come from probably the hardest public school in CA, for sure MSJHS in the bay area

10th: 3.75
11th: 3.00 w. 3.67

I played JV golf this year, and mite play Varsity next year

i have a lot of extra curricular activities outside of school, and i emphasize a lot of activities

i am working on 300+ volunteer hours (we get a plaque for exceeding 300 hours)

a possible reason for my decline of grades was because my father was sick with a brain tumor a few years back, and he got his surgery and everything was a little better, but he gets a lot of focal seizures so i have to help him a lot. (how would i explain o colleges about this in apps)

Also i wanted to know if community college was a good idea too, since one can transfer to a UC after "two years" of CC (some finish in one year or 1.5 years too)

Thanks for the help

also i am in band, all four years of high school, plus four years before in middle and elementary school

Which UCs? If all...

Berkeley/UCLA: big reach
UCSD: reach
UCD/UCSB/UCI: slight reach
UCSC/UCR/UCM: match
SJSU: match
Cal Poly: slight reach

i agree with kyledavid80

work on your SAT scores

CalPoly: maybe a match b/c it's part of the CSU system. you would need to improve your SAT scores. Try the ACT.

Going to a community colleges is ok, but it's harder to get into a UC through that path. Going straight to a UC or CSU would be easier on you.

Hey, I went to MSJHS graduated in '06. I know that your GPA is a bit low for UCB and UCLA especially if you're going to do engineering. I had a 4.13 or something maybe a bit higher. SAT II's were higher and SAT I was like the same. My essays were good and I got reject from berkeley so did many from MSJHS. I suggest you bring those SAT up.
You might be able to pull off SD and Davis and I'm sure everything else would be a match since you're from msjhs. You can write about your father in your essay and how it affect you that would help alot. And I thought you needed 320 hours to get an award or something. Well you never know these college admissions are so random.

where did u get into rasenganx?

yea imma work on my SAT 1 over summer

hopefully i improve a lot

thanks

anyone else???

Cal poly what? SLO or pomona. if pomona then ur in fo sho

Actually, I agree with what nhsharvard said; Cal Poly, while seeming similar to mid-tier UCs, is still a CSU, so it might be a match for you.

88888888: "Cal Poly," if unspecified, most likely refers to SLO.

UCB/UCLA: Large Reach
UCSD: Reach
UCI/UCSB/UCD: Slight Reach
Cal Poly SLO: Slight Reach
UCSC/UCR/UCM: Match

If I was you I would probably forget about UC Berkeley, UCLA, and UCSD. They seem to be well out of reach. Shoot for mid tier UC's and Cal Poly SLO. You deffiantly got a shot at them and should be good for UCSC, UC Riverside, and UC Merced.

how much would my chances improve if my SAT was 2000+?

and yes its cal poly SLO

Akashanksta, I am going to UCLA right now majoring in electrical engineering and probably a minor in math. If you are able to survive classes like jager's BC class, Chaney's AP Physics class, Howell's AP Bio, AP chem with Camacho and were able to pull of an A then I say first year is going to be a breeze for you.

I would either shoot for the mid-tier UCs, or else go the California community college course--and shoot for a 3.6 GPA or above--which would get you into either UCLA or USC.

Best of success.
