Chances for UF and any scholarships?

I am a junior from Michigan getting ready to fill out college apps. I would like to know what others think about my chances for UF.

I am looking to major in something business related, and possibly hospitality (if business does not work out)

AP Microeconomics
AP Stats
AP Calc AB (senior year)
AP Spanish (senior year)

ACT: 29 (35 E, 28 M, 28 R, 26 S)

SAT US HISTORY subject test: 740

Taking ACT on Saturday and really hoping for 30s, taking SAT on Tuesday.

Unified Sports (help disabled kids play sports) fresh-sophomore year

Tennis (varsity starting sophomore year)
Golf (varsity starting sophomore year) Voted most improved sophomore year (hopefully captain senior year)

National Honors society junior and senior year

300+ hours of community service

Attended the state leadership conference 3 years and attended the summer leadership camp this past year

I was a counselor at a camp for kids with Muscular Dystrophy for a week last summer. (7 days/overnight camp)

Please let me know what you think about my chances as far as my college list goes! Thanks!

Good work! Your GPA is basically straight As.
You should work on your ACT. Try to get at least a 30, 31 is good and would put you at 75th percentile.

I’m not sure if UF favors out of state or in state.
I think you are a competitive applicant. I believe you will probably get in.

In my honest opinion you are a strong applicant for UF, however, scholarship is VERY hard to come by. I believe as few as a hundred, or a couple hundred, freshmen are actualy awarded scholarships (13,000 are accepted).

Update: I got a 33 on the April ACT. (34 E, 33 M, 34 S, 31 R).

@pbmcdoug Do you have any tips on how to go about the reading?

Great great job. This puts you quite a bit above the 75% mark for ACT.
I’d definitely expect to be admitted if everything else is in line.

Do I have a shot at any scholarships?

I would say you have an excellent shot at being admitted, awesome job! Scholarships at UF are tough to come by though. My son (class of 2021) had a higher UF GPA and a 34 ACT score and received nothing, but there were others with slightly lesser stats who received the top scholarships, so you never know. I definitely wouldn’t count on it, but good luck!

Probably not a scholarship, at least not from UF. But you have a decent shot at admission!

Well, if you’re a National Merit Finalist, you can get full-tuition at UF despite being an OOS student (You still have to pay for other expenses like housing and food, though)… Other than that, you probably can’t get a good scholarship. I don’t know if I’m remembering correctly, but there was a thread a few years back about a parent complaining about how his OOS daughter had perfect stats and only received a few thousand dollars in scholarship money from UF.

Never mind, the National Merit thing got vetoed. : /
