Hi, I was deferred early action and am very nervous about whether or not I will get in regular decision. What do you think my chances are for getting in during the February round?
My stats:
GPA: 3.90 W, 3.76 UW (end of junior year); 3.87 W, 3.73 UW (senior mid-year report)
9th grade: AP Human + all other gifted classes
10th grade: AP World History + all other gifted classes
11th grade: AP US History, AP Physics I, AP Calculus AB, AP Lang
12th grade: AP Gov/AP Econ, AP Literature, AP Biology, Accelerated Calculus II (counts as college course)
4 years of fine arts + 3 years of honors spanish
New SAT: 1310 (but I retook it in January and am hoping I got a higher score)
ACT: 29 (super-scored)
I founded/started 2 clubs at my school, am the president of 3 clubs, and a member of NHS
I also participate in other community service
Why do you think you did not get in. Don’t know for sure but seems scores in range. Do you go to competitive HS and perhaps you didn’t have strong gpa compared to peers?
Child applying in a few years.
Good luck.
@alltoomuch Yup, I’m pretty sure that’s it. Im from Gwinnett County so its very competitive here, a lot of my peers who have similar stats as me got deferred as well. It was a lot harder and more competitive this year for EA since more students than ever applied. Each year it gets harder to get in. Good luck for when you apply!
@collegefun! They admit a small number of EA deferred/RD applicants who meet the EA criteria in late February. They haven’t announced the exact date yet though, but my guess is the 24th.
Your chance looks very solid. It definitely depends on your LORs and essays though. Your stats are just below the EA stats for this year, and RD will have slightly lower stats than EA. I know people with lower act scores (27) and higher gpas (4.1) who got in EA with the same amount of rigor at competitive high schools. I have no idea how they release RD decisions or who gets to hear back in February instead of march, but sit tight and know that you’ve done everything you can.
Decisions for the February admission come out this afternoon. Although it sounds like the only people offered admission this round are regular decision applicants who meet the EA criteria. My daughter was deferred EA, but I do not expect to hear a decision until March.
