Chances for Upenn and MIT!

I was flat out rejected from Penn ED with a 2200 SAT, 33 ACT, top 11%, several jobs/extracurriculars/organizational positions on a national level, and a 3.84 GPA. You may do amazing things next year, but based on pure stats i have to say your shot is slimmer than mine was. I wish you the best of luck though.

Get some engineering safeties in there, too, btw. There are some really sweet engineering schools outside of the ones that have 5% acceptance rates!! lol

bumpbumpbump

^^^ Not being in top 10 percent, kills your chances(96 percent of Upenn kids were in 10 percent), which means if you have no hook(urm, leagcy, athlete), your chances are slim …You need around a 2250 and be in the top 5 percent of your class to have any real chance(even then, upenn an mit are still high reaches)

Are you getting the University of Pennsylvanian and Penn State Confused…
^I hate it when people do that…

My uncle did that.
Chance me?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/642960-upenn-jhu-gwu-etc.html</a></p>

Um, they are both medium reaches for you. Depending on your SAT II scores… idk yet.

well, the SAT score is fairly low for those places, but still good, but MIT will expect you to have a math II subject test and be farther than calc 1 by graduation

chance me at
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/635725-chance-me-i-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

You’re lacking ECs, SATs, and pretty much quite a lot of stuff.

Throw yourself in a couple of olympiads. Though it’s probably kinda late to do that. I know a friend who’s in 2 International Olympiads - MIT gave him an invitational letter before he even graduated from HS. That’s the kind of “safety” that I guess we’re talking about.

So… maybe you might want to retake your SAT? 2250+ is a nicer range. Though that’s still the 1st cut. Grades by themselves don’t get you anywhere,… unless you’re some straight A top in form/class student.

Good luck though. I’m thinking both would be high-reach for you.

the day any ivy becomes a safety for anyone will be…never

The only IQ related thing that could matter is if you get into MENSA but I don’t really know how that would be applicable to engineering.

To get into hypsm or even penn, you need (USUALLY) higher stats than you currently have you have a while to bring them up though, which I’m assuming this thread will inspire you to do.

After the stats which are usually just a first round, you need to be different than every other genius applying to MIT or Penn. Why should they accept you? What interest have you shown in engineering? Penn has a “why Penn” essay on the application…so why?

Basically, if you can raise your stats they are reaches (as they would be for anyone…acceptance rates are just ridiculously low) and then if you show some interest and get killer subjective stuff going on, you have a chance

“damn. you would think that i’d be a really competitive applicant considering that i technically near genius”

You’d think that a supposed genius would actually know how to use grammar.

The 3.7 gpa is low (for MIT and UPenn). Definitely get a couple safety schools. To get into either of those schools you’re going to have to do incredibly well with essays. I agree with above posts, take the ACT and a couple other SAT II’s. Thing is though, with only having taken pre-calc through junior year, your math scores will have to be VERY high, especially if you want to sell yourself as an engineer.

‘Genius’ relative to the whole of the human race puts you at average in the ivy crowd. Don’t make the mistake of assuming too much. You’re not very special (look around this forum) and believing yourself to be can be fatal.

Penn is never a safety, for anyone and I bet even 4.0/2400s get rejected each year. The odds say that you’ll probably get into neither, followed by a rather slim chance of getting into one, and a tiny tiny chance of getting into both.

but don’t let that discourage you. dump your delusions and work hard. good luck!

bump…,

May I ask what you’re bumping for?

You have been repeatedly told that you will not get into these schools unless you are, very very lucky. No matter how smart you think you are, your grades do not reflect that. Kids who do much, much better than you get rejected from both of those schools.

Nobody cares about an IQ of 138. That honestly isn’t even very good compared to kids at MIT. Mines higher, and I don’t expect to go to MIT.

Your score of 2100 is good, but not MIT material. If you want to get into MIT, retake the SATS and score 200-250 points higher.

I’m sorry man, but it’s a long shot. No amount of bumping, waiting for the one person tot ell you that you have a chance so you can feel better will not actually make you get in. This is a three page thread for a typical kid who thinks he can get into MIT because he likes math and science. Let it rest.

double post

I doubt you’ll get into either. need better scores. Oh, and no one cares about IQ…sheesh.

Upenn is definitely not safety. I would say its med-high reach. You need to have lots of leaderships on your resume besides all the numbers.

Asian is an anti-hook. I would not report your race.

■■■■■ much?

holy **** dude we have like the exact same stats bud

i am also an asian junior from north jersey, and although i havent taken the SATs yet i am projecting a 2100 just like you got. and dude what a coincidence my IQ is also 138, although I got that result from a facebook quiz and not my psychologist uncle

im also applying to MIT, and upenn is also my safety. even though penn engineering > MIT lols
go us, we technically near genius!
