Just got my fall semester grades. Another 4.0 semester.

Transfer Student
Out of State
Puerto Rican Male
1st college GPA: 3.6, 25 credits (decent liberal arts school)
2nd college GPA: 3.88, 47 credits (community college) should be 4.0 but I took a tough chemistry class and got a B- last fall.
HS GPA: 3.4, Class Rank: 36/278
SAT score: (10/2007) Reading- 600, Math- 580, Writing- 720 (9/12 essay)
retook this October: Reading 640, Math- 570, Writing- 740 (11/12 essay)

But only sent the 2007 scores to UVA. UNC doesn't require them if you have over 30 credits I believe so I didn't send any to them.

Think I wrote some great essays for UVA and I even got a professor recommendation even though it's not required for transfers.

Would it be worth applying to a school like Georgetown too?

I would say your in at UNC-CH. The average GPA for incoming Jr. Transfers is a 3.15. Your well above it. I don’t know what state your from but UNC doesn’t consider state status as a transfer student. So if your Out-Of State than your in luck. Either way just write good essays and get good rec’s from professors and I think you’ll get accepted to Chapel Hill.

As for UVA. This will be more difficult. Your grades are solid. I hope you have taken the right courses as far as gen ed’s and stuff. That will be important. If your in-state for Virginia then you stand a better chance. In my opinion, I would say your stand a good chance for Fall 2011 if you keep up your work. Work hard in the spring and make sure to send Mid-Term grades. I believe UVA reviews them. Good Luck.

Hey everyone…I am just trying to figure out my chances of being accepted to UNC & UVA for next year–fall, 2011 (application deadline March 1, 2011).

I am a California resident and currently a sophomore attending Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, so I would be transferring as a junior. I am a communications major and english minor (switched from business after 1st semester freshman year), and have a 3.8 cumulative GPA. I ran (division 1) cross country and track and field my freshman year, yet had to stop running due to a re-ocurring/major hip injury & surgery. I am currently a “student athlete mentor,” which involves teaching a class (involving study skills, ethics, etc), for the freshman athletes, as well as helping and coordinating various charity events. I consider myself a good writer, so I plan on being able to write a pretty strong essay for the application. Thanks for the help, time, and input!
