Chances for Wharton?? :) I'll Chance you back to the best of my ability

Hey CC,
I'm an Indian Junior from NJ weighing my options for college, but I really really really want to go to Wharton. What do you think my chances are?

GPA: 3.76 UW, 4.33 W (I had a really bad freshman year, all B+'s but after that I have straight A's, does improvement count for anything?)
Harderst Courseload possible for my school
SAT: 2400
Extra Curriculars:
Significant:
Founded and run my own tutoring service (its actually a business not only me tutoring)

Internship at Merril Lynch

Founder and President of my school's Investment Strategies and Economics Club (its gotten to become a pretty big organization in the first year, 30+ members, how do I show colleges this?)

Less Significant:
Played Basketball and Volleyball, but a bad ankle injury (hurt it 3 times in one year -_-) caused me to quit, not sure if i'll play Bball as a senior or letter in it
Volunteereed as a camp counselor at religious camp at local Hindu Temple (HTCS)

Volunteereed as a camp counselor at local yoga camp (Gurukul Yoga Center)

Volunteered at the Somerset Medical Center as a receptionist

Volunteered at Bridgewater-Raritan Library

Teach Curriculum and Competition Math (AMC, AIME, MOEMS) at Insighful Learning Center

Member of Math Honor Society, Science Honor Society, and French Honor Society

Regional Gold Medal Winner in NorthSouth Foundation Spelling Bee, Math Bee, Vocabulary Bee, and Essay Writing Competition

Proficient in Mrudangam (Indian Drums); played in many concerts in Hindu Temples for religious festivals and in the Cleveland Aradhna (International Indian Music Festival)

Aside from Wharton, i'm looking at Stanford (I know its a crapshot haha), Columbia, UChicago, UMich-Ross, NYU-Sterns, UVA, UCB-Haas

Let me know what you guys think?
Thanks

I think you have a pretty good chance. Your SAT is great but your GPA is a little low, though it does have an upward trend. Good ECs too. Good luck!

Chance me back please? I also applied for Wharton…

if your ranked in the top 10% of your class with that GPA then you should be fine on that count. Otherwise, you have the EC’s, you didn’t provide any info on the courses you have taken, but assuming they are fairly rigorous, if you write good essays you have a decent shot, its always about those essays. I would advise you to stress the tutoring service, tell Penn how much you love to teach others, and then also mention how much you like the business side of it.

Low GPA may hurt, but otherwise I don’t see why you won’t get a congratulatory letter…

Edit: How many times did you take the SAT/is that a superscore?

yeah i took the SAT twice and ended up with a 2400 superscore, but colleges only see the best from each section right? i hope so lol

If you apply ED and write a decent Why Penn/Wharton essay, you have a good chance that you will get in. If you apply RD, your chance is much lower, considering that your resume lacks leadership positions in your activities. This is the only thing I can advise, given your super awesome SAT (do you have SAT II/AP Scores?), your attractive Merril Lynch internship (I’m jealous =p, haha), and your reasonable GPA (freshmen year is always the least important).

Stanford: Low chance
Columbia: Medium chance
NYU Stern and UChicago: Very confident that you will be accepted
Berkeley: High chance (my opinion is a bit skewed since I’m a CA resident, and if you were a CA resident, your SAT and GPA alone should guarantee you. Also, keep in mind that you must apply for Haas during your sophomore year, which I believe will be stressful =[ )
Michigan and UVA: Not sure, never looked into these two schools

Best of luck, and hope to see you at Wharton in the coming year or so =]

thanks a lot guys!
