Legacy at Harvard, Cornell, and University of Pennsylvania

Please chance me for

UPenn (wharton) ED
MIT (Sloane)
Harvard-Economics
Stanford-Economics
Princeton-Economics
Yale-Economics
Cornell-(Curtis Johnson)
UChicago-Economics
UColumbia
Carnegie Mellon (Tepper)
Duke
Notre Dame (Mendoza)
NYU Stern
University of Virginia (McIntire School of Commerce)
Georgetown (McDonaugh)
UMichigan (Ross)

Guaranteed safety: UT (McCombs) (valedictorian gets a full ride to any dept.)

In descending order from personal preference ie. Wharton is my first choice and Ross is my last

UPenn (wharton) ED
MIT (Sloane)
Harvard-Economics
Stanford-Economics
Cornell-(Curtis Johnson)
Princeton
UChicago-Economics
UColumbia
Carnegie Mellon (Tepper)
Duke

^^^^^You have a shot at these but they are very selective (toss ups)^^^^^

Notre Dame (Mendoza)
NYU Stern
University of Virginia (McIntire School of Commerce)
Georgetown (McDonaugh)
UMichigan (Ross)

^You have a very good chance at: UVA, NYU, UM (should get in)
Georgetown, ND are both toss ups

I don’t think you’ll have to worry about the others, because you have a solid shot at Wharton ED; great gpa/class rank obviously, SAT a little weaker but decent nonetheless. Your leadership is where you do well, and it’s clear. Also, some pretty hefty awards. I would also consider looking at the dual-degree programs for ED if any seem to interest you.

Hmmm, ok dblazer do you think i should i apply to Harvard ED for econ, or would that just waste my ed, as i wouldn’t have a chance? Next, how do you get into a dual program, do you just apply, or is their a way to make your own, I would love to do a dual program in psychology and business or business and pre law, but i realized that there is no way i could practice law and switch later in my life to business, for both fields take at least 10 years for a good job.

Apply ED to Harvard, though it’s a toss up (As it is for everyone on the planet haha). UPenn Wharton seems to have a high chance for you because of your excellent grades, SAT score, and Extracuriculars. Apply ED to Cornell if you want to play it safe (Very likely you’ll get in, and they’re great for Wall Street Recruiting, if that’s what you’re aiming for) =]

Deciding between Harvard Early Action or Wharton ED is something you’ll have to think about for yourself. Remember, with ED at Wharton you’re locked in so you have to be comfortable with not knowing about whether you could have gotten in to places like Harvard, Stanford, etc if you get in unlike with Harvard SCEA. You’re a strong applicant overall and have legacy there so if you didn’t go ED, in the end, it seems like you would get into good places. You’d still have decent chances at Wharton RD, but it’s undoubtedly tougher so you want to think about it. One thing you may also want to consider is how much you’re sure about business/finance b/c Wharton will set you up with the best opportunities closely followed by Harvard for finance. If you have some doubt about going in to finance (like you’re thinking about law), I would say going to a school like Harvard would give you better options overall in anything else you would consider so that’s something else to consider.

Also, I was referring to special dual-degree programs Penn has.
[Wharton Undergraduate | Coordinated Dual-Degree Programs](Career Exploration - Undergraduate)

They are pretty good programs that Penn offers where you get a Wharton degree and either a Bio, Engineering, or Liberal Arts/Language degree from Penn’s other schools. None of them seem to fit the pre law/psych thing you’re looking for though.

Are you taking a math subject test soon? If not, you’ll need to take one in order to apply to MIT (and maybe some of the others, not sure).

You should definitely look into the dual degree programs at Penn. Also, from what I understand, applying to harvard SCEA offers no benefit/advantage, whereas applying to Wharton ED gives you better odds

Hmmm thanks guys, I will look into those, and my sat II math is on the way, just waiting for the results. I’ve never heard of applying to Harvard Ed not helping, but it would probably be true due to the huge amount of kids applying both Ed and rd. If i apply to a dual program, and get rejected, will I still be able to get into regular Wharton? If I go Ed on my Wharton app, will it count for the dual program as well as the regular? I am thinking about the hunstman program, does anyone know how competitive that is? Do you have to be bilingual? Is it possible to apply for a dual major in psych and business, for some colleges do that, but i cant find out if penn lets you make unorthodox combinations. Thanks guys.

For junior year gpa, I forgot to turn it into the 4.0 scale, my school does gpa unweighted out of 5 and weighted out of 6

For now I think I will stick with finance, trying to go into investments, I just don’t see me being a lawyer and businessman, for it will take years to build up a solid foundation in both. In psych or sociology, I can understand peoples thoughts and use it to predict the market

How do you know AP scores from JR year?

I estimated them conservatively XD. That is probably what they will look like on my resume though.

You have several options when you apply ED.
1)You can choose to apply just to Wharton for ED
2)You can choose to apply to just a dual-degree program for ED
3)You can choose to apply to dual-degree as a first choice ED with Wharton or College of Arts and Sciences/Engineering School (depending on which program) as the back-up.

Huntsman program is competitive as are all the dual-degrees, but if it interests you, ED is the way to go as Penn tries to fill about half the spots ED and the ED pool is less competitive. You might be able to take courses in psych as a Wharton student, but you’d have to check with the school.

Well, it looks like I will get a minor in sociology, because it doesn’t say that you can get an unorthodox dual degree.

@dblazer 2300 is definitely not a “weaker” SAT score

I believe Wharton’s average is about 2300, and that includes all the kids with hooks who end up getting in. Wharton in particular cares about SAT more so than other schools.

So it’s average, not weak.

In everywhere. Remember, top tier colleges love privileged students like yourself who take advantage of their financial resources and family experience. I am highly doubtful you will receive any rejections as long as you take all parts of your application seriously, which I am sure you will.

The average SAT for Wharton is 1441(over 1600) according to this link.
[University of Pennsylvania – The Wharton School](http://www.businessschool.com/business-schools/the-wharton-school/)
so your SAT score is not weak.
