Chances into UCF?

I really want to go to UCF but I don’t know if I’ll make it. They said they recalculate your gpas to their types of gpas with extra points per ap/honors and my new recalculated gpa would be a 3.5, without calculating my senior year schedule. I only took the act and sat once and got a 21 and 1500. I plan on retaking the sat in november though and I’m hoping that I’ll do better cause I know that a 1500 isn’t the most competitive. I’ve been taking honors and ap classes all 4 years and are in some clubs. I also did swim team and made varsity all four years and was team captain senior year. My teacher said that my ucf essays were really good so hopefully that will bump my chances somewhat.

Also, since I’m retaking the sat in november, I don’t know if I should send in my application now with my 1500 score or without it cause I feel like I could be deferred and I don’t know if that will decrease my chances.

You seem to have decent credentials, but the test scores are indeed concerning. Many colleges use ACT and SAT to determine how ready you are for college level courses, so they use those to see how well you might do academically. Taking the SAT again is a good idea, but only if you invest the time to study for it. Otherwise, you are just wasting money. If I were a college admissions officer, I think I would on the fence between wait-listing or admitting you simply because of your other strong credentials.

That being said, if you are wait-listed, some schools will allow you to send in new information that happened after you sent in the application. If your SAT score is significantly better (like 1800 or above), this November, then you might get in. But check to see if that is UCF’s policy.

Good luck!
