chances, ivies, UF safety

hey guys.. this is for my friend..

hispanic junior, IB student

UW GPA: about 2.9
W GPA : about 4.1

OLD SAT: 1310
EC's : very good debater, upcoming CAPTAIN of water polo and swimming
not heavy into clubs or anything so basically kind of low on EC's.. barely any community service as well

one thorn on his side that i see is the fact that he has failed 3 classes so far... and might fail 2 this year...

can this affect him a lot in the admissions process, despite boasting a fairly high GPA?

he would like to think of ivies, or if not univ of florida as a safety..

what do you guys think about these schools, and how will these failed classes affect him?

thanks alot!!

For the seriousness of discussion. I don't think he should consider non-ivies his "safe schools". That unweighted GPA is what colleges look at and the guy's rank (using the schools weighted GPA).

five failed classes!!!
well i don't want to make you friend self-conscious, but i don't think the ivies will really like five failed classes.....even if there's an upward trend.......well maybe if there's a BIG upward trend....like he gets straight A's for the..........actually he's a junior so yeah the five failed classes are a big deal........unless there's some kinda reason for it...................but he should defintely always try for the ivies (and try his best) no matter what 'cause you never know what might happen....believe me :)

sorry i posted this in the wrong section.. lemme re-post this in the other section

Lol yeah health. Im going to apply to cornell as my only IVy school and if SOMEHOW i get into hotel school I will be laughing.

No really.

I should stop dreaming and think more reasonable collegs like:

Ann abhor, Austin, Indiana, Wisconsin (Yes Wisonsin). These are among the top 10 business management colleges.

he should work at a mcdonalds. UF wont take him.

nothing to see here, move along.
