List
I'm applying to:
several ivies, cornell/brown/harvard/dartmouth - I love brown / dartmouth
prob. matches brandeis/tufts/duke? /wash u?

What affect will my numbers have on college admissions? I think I'm going to retake in Oct.

From reading other Resume's that sound ALOT better then yours I think you have NO CHANCE at Harvard and A bunch of the other Ivies.

But to me you Resume looks great and alot better then Mine, BUT from what all the other people are saying,, Ivy is probably a reach for only a 2000 SAT. Ivies are like 2300 Range.

MUN! What international conference did you go to?

But as to chances...your SATs are a little low, and you don't show any passion in your ECs. You've done MUN the longest...have you won any awards? Best delegate? Delegation? Without a passion/strong tests, it's going to be hard to get into the ivies, even Cornell, which is substantially easier. I'd say Duek/Wash U are reach-matches and Brandies and Tufts are good matches, though I could be a little off. The ivies are all major reaches, unless you can substantially imporve your tests or you write amazing, award-winning essays and have great interviews. If you can pay the application fee, though, it can never hurt to apply (though you're competition for Dartmouth!).

Uhm I'm president of the club which has 40-50 members depending on the given year. I also moderated a regional conference if that helps.

As for SAT's, the 1380 falls in the middle 50% for most schools, but the people on that end are probably the jocks that can't read / legacy / or oppresed minorities.

honestly, and im not trying to be rude or anything, i think u have VERY LITTLE chances at any the ivies. ur GPA and SATs scores r jus wayyyy too low. ECs are good but that can only help u so much. Duke and WSLU are reaches and brandeis and tufts are reach/match.

i say u shouldnt give up. have faith in yourself and put together a GREAT application. the chances r small for everyone. who knows, u just might get in. if u dont try, then u really wont get in... your chance is small but its still a chance (and someone always wins the lottery, right?)

Depending on the difficulty of his course load, his GPA seems fine. And his SAT's are definitely not too low, even though they could be a little higher. My point being your SAT's will not keep you out of any college.

As far as your stats are concerned, your gpa is fine in conjunction with your class rank. Also, what was was your courseload like? Did you take the most demanding courseload available at your school? Your sats are a little at the lower end, though a 2000 is not a bad score. As far as stats, I would recommend that you retake the SAT to see if you can get a better score, and also, you should take the ACT to see if you score better on that. Note that I'm only basing judgement on stats, and that you should make sure that you write a really good essay, and mention and stress your major extracurricular activities because they too have an affect on your application.

I took nearly all AP classes since sophomore year - definitely hardest coures available. I think GPA by itself is kind of meaningless without looking at the rank. At our school the highest GPA, held by the valedvic is a hair over 3.8. Most people on this board have that beat hands down. However, I don't necessarily think that they are ANY smarter.

As for essays, I'm going to write about my experience with Model UN and how it has influenced my leadership.

In my science background, if I had placed 3rd I would have attended the international science fair - alas.

last year this time... i stood almost in the same situation as you, my SATs were a little higher(1400 SAT I, 2110 SAT II(b/c of a 630bio)) and GPA higher(4.0), rank ~same(4/350)
my ECs were better i'd say....
with my optimism, i applied to stanford EA(and of course, expectantly rejected EA)
afterwards, i thought... well... it's stanford, meh... i am still good, there is stil RD, i'll apply to more schools and hopefully i'll hit something
then i tried my luck at dartmouth(i really wanted), cornell, upenn, wustl(they like ED ppl), UCberk, UCLA, amherst
and all rejected except wustl(waitlisted, but didn't bother with it)
and now i am at pretty much a cc...
from my experience, i would say... you are aiming too high! Harvard doesn't even take 1500s, they get those in 10s of thousands
anyway, i wish you good luck
and you should get some nice safeties :)
pick schools like colgate and middlebury
$most important piece of application$
ESSAY!

Yeah, i was reading his app, and that kind of sucks.

Cornell accepted like five people from my school last year, some with relatively unimpressive numbers. IE, even further behind me in rank and SAT.

I guess the app and essays are going to be very important.

What Newbyreborn says is true: Harvard doesn't take 1500s because they get so many people with them. I had a 1550, was salutatorian of a class of 612, had good essays and recs, but was rejected. However, Harvard does take some people with 1300s just because that person fits some slot that they're looking to fill. Don't give up on your dreams; apply anyway. What do you have to lose? $65? If you get in - you'll be happy that you spent it. (That goes for the other schools as well.)
