Great Recs
Great essay (about coming to the U.S. several years ago and overcoming language barriers--could not speak english back then--and such)
Ok ECs (music, community service, tutoring-job, one varsity sports)
probably applying to steinhardt-communication, or....cas...oorrr gallatin..lol
Have visited the campus and attended the info session..Ah..i love NY and NYU!

I know my Stats are low, but what do you think..?!?!

Nothing stands out unfortunately. I don't think you have a great shot...asian females are a dime a dozen here at NYU. Just my opinion, but you never know!

I see. By the way, do you think there are many others, who came to the U.S. several years, that would write about the language barrier they faced on their application essays? I think there are, but I'm just curious.

NYU is one of those schools that kids are dying to get into because of its NYC location. they have a HUGE applicant pool, around 35,000, so they can pick and choose, which is what they do. i think your chances are slim, but as they say, "it's all a crapshoot!"

it's worth a shot. one of my friends is a white male and his stats are about yours, maybe a slight bit higher in the SATS and ECs. but you never know. you never know what they are looking for. you have just as good of a chance as anybody because people with lower stats than yours have gotten in programs.

yes there are many many many international students........the situation is like this...inter kids want to go there and nyu likes inter kids who can pay the bill....so its very unfortunate situation...

it is worth a shot. U definitely have a chance in getting into NYU depends on your program.

thanks for the replies everyone!

dnduswo- I don't quite understand what you are saying. Are you saying that my situation is unfortunate because I'm currently living in the states? I'm actually not applying for finantial aid at all, but international applicants would still have an advantage?

vector- You said that it depends on my program. Which program would be less competetive you think?

Based only on numbers Stern is the most competetive. I think Tisch is more about your level of talent but thats hearsay mind you.

Yeah, I'm not interested in Stern though. I'm interested in Cas, Steinhardt, or Gallatine

She's not an international student! I think you don't have that great of a chance. I've read of students with much higher stats who were GSP'd.

So, I'm guessing NYU is more number based. Man, I really wanted to apply..sigh

then apply! the worst thing that can happen is they reject you, but theres always a chance of admission. Write a very interesting essay about your language difficulties; I know many applicants who came from different countries and write about acclimating to the U.S. culture, what makes you so different and unique? Write about that. Best of luck to you.

don't let people's opinions stop you from applying! you NEVER know... and you won't want to be stuck with all the "what if?"s later. good luck!
