Chances of changing room assignment at UMASS AMHERST

I am a transfer student and recently got my room assignment for Cashin at Sylvan dorms.. Ive heard a lot of negative things about this location and really want to try and get into southwest. I filled out the thing to get a august room selection appointment to try and get a different assignment.. Does anyone no how easy it is to switch and any other advice on where is good to live

Haha…sorry I have to laugh a little. Everyone wants to get into southwest! I assume mostly for the party reputation it has. I actually did NOT want SW and got placed in it anyhow! Well I guess you can’t win.

Room selection started today, if you got an early-ish appointment you might be able to get into SW. If not, you’re probably stuck in Sylvan as a lot of the open rooms are in Sylvan…as it is the least desirable place to live on campus. Mostly because its just so far away from the rest of the university.

Have you checked out the room swap app on the Living At Umass facebook page? You can post that you are looking to swap for a room in SW. You can either do it as an individual or talk to your roommate (if you have one) and see if they are open to doing a room swap rather than a roommate swap. A room swap will allow you to switch rooms with any gender where obviously if you as individual swap into SW you will have to find a spot with another male. There actually was a guy posting on there the other day mentioning that he had an open spot in his SW room and was looking for a roommate. I’d get in touch with him if I were you. His open spot did NOT show up on spire…so its likely its still available.

As of other places, I like orchard hill and central.
