Chances of getting accepted- UCLA??

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if I could get some feedback of where I stand in the applicant pool. Any feedback or comments are greatly appreciated!

UC GPA: 4.11
SAT: 1460
ACT: 30

President of medical club, hospital volunteer, many officer positions in clubs, lots of volunteer work

edit: I forgot to mention this but I’m planning on applying as a Psychology or Psychobiology major at the college of Letters and Science at UCLA

Intended major? HS course rigor?

Your SAT and GPA are within range which makes you a qualified applicant. Having leadership positions will help and spend time on your essays.
Due to the large number of applicants, consider UCLA a Reach school but definitely possible.

Stats not major specific.
Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 (capped weighted);

UCLA: 14%

What UCLA considers in their application review:

  • Los Angeles
    *
  • Very important: Academic GPA, Application essay, Rigor of secondary school record, Standardized test scores

  • Important: Character/personal qualities, Extracurricular activities, Talent/ability, Volunteer work, Work experience

  • Considered: First generation college student, Geographical residence

  • Note: GPA, test scores, course work, number of and performance in honors and AP courses most important. Essay considered. Strong senior program important. Extracurricular activities, honors and awards also reviewed.

Thank you! I know my GPA is probably a bit on the lower side but I hope my essays will save me. I will have taken 7 AP classes by the end of senior year [AP World History (3), AP Bio (3), AP Lang (4), AP Gov, AP Psych, AP Lit, AP Calc AB].

Also wondering if they take into account of AP Scores?

AP scores are not considered for admission purposes, only for college credit. Best of luck.

you look fine for the school. not a reach, a match, just keep in mind it has a huge applicant pool and is considered a match for a lot of people. I had similar stats and I’m here ¯_(ツ)_/¯

UCLA is a reach for all. What is your dream job? What do you want to accomplish. It’s worth spending time thinking about the essay questions and choosing the ones that help you shine.

@preppedparent Do they actually pay a lot of attention to essays? I thought we so many applicants, UCLA just briefly reviews the essays without giving them a lot weight.

@collegefind1234 It’s my belief that the essays are a big differentiator between who is accepted and who isn’t. There are so many kids with similar stats that they have to use something else and that is the essays. You also need grades and high test scores, but we know plenty of kids who had those and didn’t get in including one of my sons.

AP scores are considered during the holistic review. If a student has a bunch of 5’s, of course it’s going to make a positive impact.
