Chances of getting in and aid and Scholarship at GW?

I went through the entire gwu forum tag and couldn’t really find a situation that mirrored mine so I decided to make another one  I applied regular decision.
My stats
1380 sat
100.009 gpa weighted (we don’t do unweighted at my school)
Think my ec are pretty good. I’m the president of Rho kappa. A key leader in my model un group. I’m the coeditor in chief of my school newspaper. I’m in some other clubs that pertain to writing and school committees.
As for my financial aid my efc came out to be 0.000430
So I was wondering what my chances are of even getting in. Ive been pretty nervous going through these threads and seeing people with higher stats than me get waitlisted or just outright rejected. Also if I did get in, if i had a chance for any scholarships and what my aid package might look like.
GW has been my top school for while. I’ve been researching everything I can find about it and I don’t see myself being happy at any other school. I’m so nervous I could combust

Is 100.009 supposed to be out of 100? Usually GPA is on a 4.0 scale.

And I don’t understand your EFC value. I think that number will only matter to the Financial Aid department. That kind of thing is why it’s difficult (if not impossible) for anyone on here to tell you what you’re going to be offered in aid if accepted. Sometimes you can get a ballpark based upon your stats and the general status of your parents (income, how much they saved for your college, how many other siblings are in college, etc).

In addition to you clarifying the GPA thing, can you tell us more about your courseload? How many honors/AP classes have you taken? GPA isn’t everything to the Admissions folks- degree of difficulty in your courses matters, too.

Finally, what kind of interest have you taken in the school? Have you been able to tour GW? Have you spoken with anyone from the Admissions department? Have you reached-out to your local Admissions Representative? How tailored was your essay to GW specifically?

I’ve completed 3 ap classes and I’m currently enrolled in 3 more. I’ve taken about 9 honors classes as well. The way we calculate gpas in my school is that my guidance counselor will take our final grades from each course from every year and average them (she also mutipiles my honors/ap classes by 1.1 and puts that average into my gpa.) I’ve wanted to put my gpa into a 4.0 scale but I’ve seen so many different scales.
My family makes about 41k for 4 people. My brothers going to med school soon so I hope that would also be taken into account?
My common app essay was written geared to my major which just so happens to be one of GW’s greatest strengths: international affairs.
I decided to take a more emotional direction with my supplement (I chose the first one; what did you learn outside the classroom) because after writing the why gw supplement about 5 my language wasn’t smooth enough and I didn’t feel confident in it.
Due to my parents mixed up holidays I haven’t been able to tour. They said I could go alone during spring breaks. However, do you highly recommend that I go?
I’ve wanted to contact my representative but im not really sure what to say if that makes sense?
@NHuffer

Ok, if that’s how they handle your grades, and assuming 100% is an A+, then you’d be sitting at a 4.00 weighted. With your stats, then, I think you’ve got a good chance at acceptance. I’m assuming you applied to the Elliot School since you mentioned International Affairs. With that said, that particular school is more selective, on average, than the rest of GW. I still think your chance is good, though.

Now, as far as Financial Aid, I think that you’ll receive a fair amount considering your family’s income and having a sibling in college as well. I can’t say how much, though, but I’d guess between $30-40K a year. Am I in anyway qualified to make a guess? Lol, no. But I’m sure you’d rather have a guess from someone that’s both received aid themselves and has seen what others have been awarded.

As far as a tour, I was only curious if it was something you had done before applying. While a tour now would be fun, it won’t help your chances at all so I’d suggest waiting to see if you get accepted and then visit.

There’s no right or wrong with contacting the Admissions Representative. It’s basically an additional way for you to show the school that you’re serious, but more importantly, a way for you to find out more about the school and see how good of a fit you are for it and vice versa. Plus, as you’ll find out soon, life is all about networking- who you know. Contacts can help you find a job, a place to live, or even a date, lol.

I’ll be sure to contact my admission representative then! Thank you for replying. I was obviously feeling very anxious but I feel much better now.
