Help guys! I am a 17 year old, middle class, Asian New Yorker. I'm just about finished applying to the said school's mentioned above and I'd really love your opinions on my chances of getting in. I know most of the school's are very ambitious but be honest in your criticisms please!

Look, despite the deferment from Wharton, you should still get into most of the places on your list.

MIT, Duke, Washington University in St. Louis and Columbia are the iffy ones (along with Wharton).

You should get into all the rest easily. I think you will get into Columbia and WUSL also--but probably not MIT or Duke. You might still get into Wharton regular admit also--I wouldn't give up on that yet.

My guess is that the schools will wonder why you applied so many places. Most will assume that it's an ego thing (and it may be). Some schools will turn you down just because they will presume you won't go there even if accepted. I always tell people to apply to 8 schools or so--not 16 like you did.

I wouldn't worry too much--you'll still end up at a great school--just don't expect to be able to choose from among all 16.

Good luck.

High five! Wharton deferred applicant here as well. I'd say you have good chances, but then again, I am also an applicant and have little knowledge about these issues.

However, I never realized that St. Louis and Duke are ranked on par with MIT and Columbia!

If you look at the selectivity ranking of these schools, they are (per Princeton Review):

MIT: 99
WUSL: 99
Duke: 98
Columbia: 98

P.S. Penn is ranked a 97, and Princeton Review does not rank separate schools at each university. If they did rank schools, Wharton would definitely be a 99 also.

That ranking doesn't make sense--WUSL is not as selective as MIT. WUSL just waitlists almost everyone who applies...Penn as a whole is more selective than both Duke and WUSL--lower acceptance rate, higher % in the top 10%, and higher average SAT scores--and is roughly on par with Columbia.

Thanks for the input so far guys. But wow, I had no idea that WUSL was so selective. I heard WUSL sometimes doesn't take qualfied students just because they know the students wont go there (maybe because of location and just not top on the list). Also, I heard that if you don't visit the school they think you just won't go and are using it as a fallback. I just got a packet from them telling me to visit soon so I guess there's some grounding in that thought.

Haha, and I definitely hope it's not an ego thing! Although my subconscious may beg to differ. I think it was a combination of my liking for most of the schools and my parents' constant pitter patter of applying here and applying there. They think I'm applying to Princeton and Harvard too. Fat chance! But I'll definitely look into cutting down on the list. And I was wondering can schools really see all the schools you are applying to and base your decision just on that? Thank's for the imput guys and keep it coming!

For Leperchan: High Five right back! There's still hope!

Any other opinions/comments? Cmon guys don't be shy!
