@kidfood what were your scores again? You may not need that much Smart choice to take it in January since I think they curve that one the most. My best one was in March so definitely try one at that time too.

@jtfootball I had a 410 in CR, 540 in Math, and a 440 in Writing. I have been focusing more on math and CR since I believe that is what IMSA will be looking for the most.

@jtfootball I had a 540 in math, 410 in CR, and a 440 in CR. I have been focusing a lot more on math and CR since that is what IMSA will probably be looking a lot more into.

Sorry, my internet wasn’t working so I guess it submitted 2 responses. The first post is right, not the one mentioning CR twice.

Well, have you taken any practice tests on your own and have your scores improved since then?

@jtfootball I am trying to learn everything now like the math I am unable to learn in my year of HS then plan on studying as in how to approach the test. I haven’t taken a practice test after my January SAT.

@kidfood You should try to take one now to see if you’ve improved since there have been a decent amount of months since the January SAT. It’s good that you’re trying to study ahead because you will have to take the SAT before the school year ends so that’s a smart idea.

Got my call from IMSA today @ 11:05, I’ve been accepted and taken off the waitlist!

Yay! Good for you. Maybe message me and we’ll exchange info? @Farriswheelz

Ya okay you can snapchat me at my same username!

Just sent a snap now! We can just communicate from there

So, in general do you guy know/think that In class and everything we use our laptops the majority of the time (like in college) or do we use the old method of pen and paper?

@Farriswheelz YOU HAVE BOOSTED MY CONFIDENCE BY 100x! CONGRATULATIONS! You will be using your laptop for most of the time I assume, it is necessary to have a laptop with the software requirements (which you can get your own laptop and purchase the software yourself or purchase a laptop from them with required software pre installed) @jtfootball OK, I will plan to take that soon and see how I have improved. Thanks!

Ya I bought one from them and I think they give you a laptop bag (I may be mistaken). So then, do you need a backpack?

hey guys newbie here, but I plan to apply to IMSA as an 8th grader. Going to take the SAT’s on December I just want some advice about 8th grade and such. I got a gold award in the Illinois State Science Fair in 7th grade, competed on a local math bowl, straight A’s, will take Geometry Honors this 8th grade, third place in district spelling bee. I didn’t attend any IMSA camp tho. I came from the Philippines in 2011 and before emigrating, got accepted into the Philippine Science High School (which is one of the best high schools in the Philippines, math and science focused). Anyway, I’m soooo nervous. And congrats for those who got accepted!

And I just planned to apply for the “feel” of the application process and whether I could get in as an 8th grader. I don’t have any plan whatsoever to attend the academy as an 8th grader. Is it still a good idea to apply even though I might get rejected/accepted?

@vniatge I think you should apply as an 8th grader as that was what I was going to do. But, I didn’t get the opportunity and I am now a freshman awaiting the application process once again. Your credentials look great especially with those awards received. As for 8th grade advice, it can only really come from former 8th graders in your school. The only thing I can tell you is do whatever you can to get the best grades possible. If you do get in as an 8th grade, think about what route you want to go. When you decline the invitation in 8th grade, but you still want to go the year after, you need to reapply and IMSA does not consider the application from the year before.

@kidfood thanks! I’m just worried right now because in the year 2015-2016 (my last chance to apply to IMSA) the SAT testing dates might be different because of the redesigned SAT in March 2016. I DONT want to take the new SAT (they said it’s harder). I wish they could accept the SAT’s from October-January so I don’t have to take the new one.

@vniatge The new SAT is ALOT easier, no writing section, easier vocabulary, and other things. The redesign was to make it a little easier, not harder. The dates won’t change, I believe the new SAT starts March 2016.

@kidfood that’s true but they said the math involves more complex equations
