Chances of getting into IMSA?

@vniatge‌ Honestly, I feel like the new SAT will be so much easier than the current one. I would rather memorize complex equations that would be encountered in an everyday math class than a weird word problem that takes a lot of time and effort to figure out. My score would probably be a little higher if I had the opportunity to take it to admittance now.

@jtfootball‌ they still didn’t release any test prep yet, and not really knowing what’s going to be on the test, it’s nerve-wrecking you know. I wonder how the 2015-2016 application year would go. The usual SAT test dates were October to March, but what if the last group of students took the redesigned SAT? Would there be some variations in scores of those who took the earlier SAT as opposed to the new one?’

@vniatge‌ they probably would make the testing earlier (say: August-February) and not let the March SAT scores count, seeing as it may be an unfair advantage to those who take it in March.

@Farriswheelz‌ if that is the case then I missed the new SAT by a very close shot. Anyway, how is IMSA so far? Congratulations for everybody’s acceptances! :D

It’s been a while since someone has posted anything. Almost a week till move-in, anyone excited? I’m still waiting for my IMSA laptop to come, it takes like forever!

Hello tigerman333, jxuwyrm and jtfootball

Your chances are not based heavily on your grades and only somewhat based on standardized testing scores. I.M.S.A is really going to look at your extra curricular, clubs and leadership positions in schools as well as your achievements in sports and fine arts. Your chances also depend on the number of people that apply to I.M.S.A annually in your area. Each area has a set number of individual that can go to I.M.S.A, when that limit is reached, you will be wait- listed. Sad to say but, your chances also depend on your race as well. I.M.S.A also has a limit regarding minority populations, white having the dominate position in that set limit of course. Good news is Asians are the second in that limited amount. So, yay for us!

Basically your chances are determined by 4 or more factors

roughly 45% based on extra curricular involvement/ leadership roles as well as the quality of the recommendation letters from your teachers (about 15% out of the 45% come from recommendation letters)

roughly 30% based on SAT (minimum is 1800) and GPA as well as other academic requirements

roughly 25% based on area concentration of people applying

roughly 10% based on race

Final Conclusions- If you live up in chicago, your chances are highly diminutive compared to sparsely populated areas. Your chances are raised if you are highly involved in sports/ fine arts and have earned achievements in those extracurriculars.

I hope this has helped. source- 3 friends from IMSA and from IMSA website. I am also applying, so I have been doing extensive research myself :D. Good luck applying and hopefully I will get a chance to meet you all in person there.

I was already rejected so this doesn’t matter

Oh, I’m sorry to hear that… Just curious, were you from the Chicago area or a heavily populated area?

Northwest suburbs

I want to get this thread up and going early! Who else is applying this year for the class of 2018 IMSA? Post any kind of questions, comments, concerns, and credentials relating to IMSA applications. Good luck everyone!

@Farriswheelz‌ How’s residential life so far?

Can you pleases make a new thread for 2018

@tigerman333‌ why make a new thread? This thread is about IMSA admissions and I’m sure people applying for class of 2018 could gain valuable insight from those who applied to class of 2017.

Please make a new one. I statted this and I would prefer you make a new one

Well you don’t own the thread. If people want to continue discussing the admissions process at IMSA, there is no time limit on replies nor should there be. The admissions process is still the same regardless of what class year is being referenced. Correct me if I’m wrong but weren’t you rejected by IMSA? Why do you still care about people wanting information about the application process when you don’t even go there?

IMSA has a new President, and he’s doing some heavy recruiting to get more minorities to apply to IMSA. A new thread might not be a bad idea, just like how IMSA got a new President: Out with the old and in with the new.

:)

Well, if you really need a new thread, I already created a new one with all things IMSA, not just admissions. So if anyone stumbles on this, the discussion continues on my post. I will make sure to link this discussion to see the process, it will help many people.

Yooo hey guys. I’m a soph in IMSA now and I read this forum after being accepted cuz I thought it’d be humorous but I kinda wanna meet u sophs in person. If anyone is still reading this thread, meet me in 1507 one day. My name is Aakash. U probably know me on campus but if u don’t just ask for me in 07. I’ll be there. Or in 06 ;). Or u can just tell me ur name now lol …

Yeah I’ll probably take it again around jan or march maybe @priyaluvsbooks‌. I’m soooooo scared about this. It’s like the most important thing in my life right now by far.

Update: Can’t take the spring one, they won’t accept it, so January it is! I’m really scared about reading though, math is easy, but my reading, I feel lucky to actually have it improve. If I just hit 600 or 610 along with 670+ math it’ll make my day.
