Chances of getting into Northeastern

Hello, I’m a high school senior and Northeastern has been my #1 for awhile now. I applied early action but just yesterday I got deferred to regular admission. I have a 4.0, I got a 1980 on the SATs, and have 3 siblings that graduated/are currently going to Northeastern. I’m ranked 50/550 at my high school and probably about 5 kids above me applied and the all got deferred except one who got in. Anyone know how likely it is that I’ll get in? I want to stay around MA and NEU is one of the only schools I like.

Low reach, you may be offered NU In.

;((((

I was deferred and my gpa (weighted) is 4.76/5 (my highschool does not do gpa out of 4) and my SAT was 1900. I’m 25/367 at my school… Hopefully will be accepted eventually but I’m not banking on anything.

is that 4.0 weighted or unweighted? SAT score seems to be a little low for this year’s class. All my friends who were below 2000 seem to have gotten deferred. I got in with a 33 ACT and 2130 SAT, with decent money, it that helps. NEU seems to have gotten competitive in the last couple years, and will probably only get even more competitive.

I agree with TomSr. My daughter is a Junior at NEU now. (And I know it gets more competitive all the time.) When applying, she was a good student, top 10% of her class but just 1870 SAT. Deferred in Dec., but accepted to NUin in the spring. Wasn’t what she was planning but she decided to go to Greece and it was a great experience.

My son just got an email today from the Admissions Dept. that was a survey about his thoughts about studying abroad. It got around to asking how open he’d be to the NUin program. The email said that it was sent to all RD applicants as well as ED and EA deferred applicants, and that it was completely voluntary to complete the survey. He did complete it. My question about NUin is how do you finance it? If you cannot pay with the parent plus loan or any financial aid because the student would be studying internationally, what are the options to finance this? Personal loan? Line of credit? I believe the website said the semester cost approx. $34,000 last year! @Marie12, am I understanding this correctly? I would be fine with this opportunity for my son if this was offered to him, but I don’t know how it’s financed.

Interesting, @Winky1. The surveys must be relatively new. I’m sorry I don’t have an answer for you re. tuition. We, unfortunately, or fortunately, are full-pay and just had to absorb the extra fees. There were plenty of kids in our situation, I believe, but also plenty who had aid, so somehow they must have found a way to work it out. It might not be a bad idea to inquire now so that if it does come up, you’ll know where you stand. Good luck!

Thanks, @Marie12. My husband and I were on the Northeastern website this morning reading all of the information, so we were thinking the same as you. We’ll just cross the bridges as they come. Perhaps he will be accepted to the Boston campus.
