Chances of getting into Phillips Exeter Academy?

Try not to be nervous - everyone here is. Yeah, Phillips Andover would be fine, I'm sure.

alright, phew.
that is definitely some weight off my shoulders.
and rao95, it seems extremely hypocritical to correct my spelling/grammar when you cannot spell "decent" right.

I'm not trying to correct your spelling or grammar, just order of words. Oh and I was in the middle of doing a essay about Origins of Descension (hence 'sc' instead of 'c') but ok.

I am applying for 9th grade, too. (and I am a girl as well!)
Hope we both get in!!

xD
im sorry, this is REALLY funny. DEFINITELY one of the better parts of cc
but zoe, I think you have great chances, so dont be TOOO too stress. and dont mind the people on this board, they can be as jealous and as stupid as fu**.
SORRY GUYS, ITS SO TRUE.
good luck. :)

good luck also rockthepanda.
ill make sure to private message you around march 10 to see how it goes for you.

haha, thank you cheeseviolin.
and i am sure that some are jealous because a few have called me fake so far.
but why would i lie on here when i could not on my interviews/transcripts/ssat and what not.
haha, some people crack me up.

If the yields for Exeter went way down unexpectedly, then I'd have a greater chance of getting in if waitlisted. But then, the overall intelligence and strength of my class might not be so great...

wait, what does that have to do with this thread?
haha.

I think you have a good chance. We lived up there from 2002-2005 and my daughter was in 8th grade in 2005. She applied there and went for an interview but we ended up moving to FL before 9th grade. It is a really good school. She has a few friends that go there too. Good luck.

Not that this matters, but are you applying for FA?

yes, i am.

i'd say you've got a good chance, but I'm not the best judge because I'm applying as well. It's not important to not let these posts get you too down or too excited, they can be misleading at times. There's plenty of good advice in these forums, but don't take the chance posts to heart. good luck!

Should I have also noted that I won the school spelling bee 4 times-
I enclosed a "resume" with my app. Do they look at those as well?

thank god your not applying to 9th grade haha. your scores help , but generally anything over 85 will have you definately in mind. Florida seems like a region that they are looking for. i think they are tired of us northeastern kids lol. the extracurricular isnt the most unique, but its good to show leadership with that summer camp. it really comes down to you competition. i believe they take in 50 new kids in 10th grade(that is just a guess) so just ask yourself, do you think you are on of the top 50 (or however many). and yeh, i go to public middle school and i have received straight A+'s twice, and i take a 10th grade honors course and have an A at the high school down the street that i walk to, so generally B+ and above, and they dont worry. im sure you are a teachers pet like half of us on this site, so don't worry about your reccomends,,,, goooddd luckkk... hope to see you next year at PEA... ill be the new hockey goalie! haha

You guys are so dumb.. Exeter will generally accept you if you have %120 on your SSAT and strait A++'s. The might settle for %110 though. If you play any sports you must be on the US national team to be considered. As for instruments, 12 years experience (minimum) and at least 4 all-state recognitions.
Na, sorry you know im messin with you. But i'm applying too and I'm really nervous also. I'm in the same situation as you but just do what everyone told me to do. Just wait it out until the 10th, if you don't get in just drop it, if you do, great, i hope to see you there

"thank god your not applying to 9th grade haha. your scores help , but generally anything over 85 will have you definately in mind. "

are you saying that if you have anythign over an 85 on the SSAT then your are in?

^ No, definitely not. SSAT scores are one part of the application. There is no SSAT score that will automatically get you in.

Exeter looks at your transcript and whats on paper more intently than Andover I believe. they also factor in how well you fit in with the school. Are you more of an Exonian or are you more of a Phillipian. That is the question (:

TIGER and his love for Andover. hahaha

To sharikkkkhan’s post:

As hj0519 said, SSAT is one part of the application. However, any score around 85% or higher would most likely place you in the list of “could-be-accepted” applicants. Not saying that people with lower SSAT’s cannot get in, but 85%+ is generally a score that most schools like.
