I'm a freshman at UMD- College Park, and I am REALLY hoping to graduate from this place with a degree in Marketing, hence I need to get in Smith.
I applied as a high school senior, but did not get in. I just missed to requirements cut off, so I was placed in Markets and Societies which is a pre-business program that is run out of the Letters and Sciences program. We get special classes tailored towards us, and of course we get higher priority for the business classes (say they fill up, M&S students get a reserved spot)

I am a rising sophomore now, and I am really doubting my chances of getting in. At this point I am hoping that my membership in campus orgs. (Alpha Phi Omega, Music Business Society), my work experience, and frankly, my race (African American) MIGHT make me stand out and might get me in. Also, maybe the M&S stamp might make me look more dedicated towards getting in.

My GPA at the end of this year will be above a 3.0, but definitely below a 3.5. And next semester I plan on working my butt off in Accounting and MacroEcon.

What are my chances?

My back up major is Communications, but there is a stigma here that Comm majors are stupid, and lazy, and I would just die if I had to associate myself with that. I REALLY want my Marketing degree. :(
