My son applied to COB but was admitted to DGS. What are his chances and what courses should he take to transfer? He was directly admitted to Miami's Farmer School of Business. Would he be better off taking that route if he definitely wants business?

You should not accept at UIUC on the assumption it will be easy to get into business from DGS. Business is the hardest college to transfer into from one of the other UIUC colleges. You get one chance: after first year to transfer into second year. If not accepted then you can never transfer into business. Decisions are made after second semester grades are released. Of those who request transfer at that time, under 50% are taken. You need a minimum 3.0 GPA to apply for transfer but realistically you need to be at least 3.5 and even higher to have a chance, and high GPA is no guarantee because essays and ECs are considered very important and it is known for rejecting even those with 4.0 GPAs.

Courses you need to take are the basic ones those in the business college would take first year, including two semesters of econ, a math sequence (including at least one calculus course), a computer science course and it recommends a psychology course as one of your gen eds. Moreover, it prefers those who have completed the language requirement before transfer (which is met by either four years in high school of same language, or completion of the fourth semester of language in college).
