Transferring From Community College?

I plan on spending one year at the College of Dupage and then transferring to UIUC school of Business in fall of 2018. My grades in High School were awful (I had issues long story) my GPA was below 2.0 and my ACT was 22. I plan on retaking the ACT and taking a preparation class which I failed to do the first time. My goal is a 26 or 27. While I am at CoD I am going to be involved join clubs and do sports (Baseball) as well as study hard and get great grades my goal being a GPA over 3.5. I live in Illinois.

Do you think I have a shot? I am in love with UIUC but was not excepted for fall 2017

I would suggest that you seek out extensive counseling on your plan from your HS counselor, COD counselors, and UIUC. You need a plan for a business degree that doesn’t include UIUC, because it’s going to be a very long shot. Just like freshman admissions, you need to have a range of schools on your transfer list, and not just reach schools. Additionally, you need to decide whether CoB is going to be a good fit for you, even if you get in. Those students are working and performing at a high level, and dealing with true challenges in the course work. You don’t list your whole backstory, and only admissions knows how that factors into an application. CoB doesn’t take many transfers, including ICT, and the average GPA is quite high. Lots of students want those transfer spots. Watch where you put your efforts-first and foremost, you need to have as close to a perfect GPA as possible, so watch the EC’s-I would say no on team or club sports.
