Hello, I’m a freshman and would like to transfer to UMich in the fall. What are my chances ? Here are my stats:
University: University of Michigan-Dearborn
College GPA: 3.95
Credits: 38 credits total including my AP, Dual Enrollment, and upcoming Semester
HS GPA: 4.2 (unweighted)
Intended Major: Biochemistry (LSA)
Extracurriculars:
- Pharmacy technician
- member of fresh start at university
- founder of chess and history club in high school
- team manager of web development club in high school
- participant in science Olympiad
Achievements
- graduated second in my class in HS
- Honors in Science recognition
Additionally, all my credits will transfer since I’m at another uofm campus. I’ll have good essays. I took 4 AP classes and 2 Honors Classes in HS.
Negatives on application:
- B- in an English class
- About 4-5 A minus grades
- 1150 SAT score or a 23 ACT
The B- came from a dual enrollment English class and it wasn’t my fault. Very crappy instructor.
When you apply for transfer admission, anything from high school shouldn’t really matter. If you proved that you are able to be a good college student, then why should they care. College is the start of your professional career, making high school and before old news.
High school and college GPA can’t be compared apples to apples. In college, a 3.5 is considered at least decent, and a 3.7 is very good. I wouldn’t stress the single B-, since you got mostly A’s otherwise.
Michigan will continue looking at your high school grades till you have enough credits for junior status. https://admissions.umich.edu/apply/transfer-students
Plus Michigan is very tough to accept all your community College classes especially math and science . Contact the transfer department and they can help access what will and will not transfer.
Also if local there is something called Transfer Tuesdays. You sit with an admission counselor and they go through all your material. There is a discussion/learning sessions as well. Many on CC have found it great information.
Yes, don’t worry about a b-. Just do your best. If trying to transfer in the fall as a sophomore your Act score might impact you negatively. Look up what the avg score for admission from your high school was through naviance.
