chances of UC

...what are my chances of getting into UCs. According to my counselor i am essentially guaranteed ucsc and ucr, but only a 50% chance of getting into uci, ucsb, ucd and it would be a reach for ucla, berkeley, ucsd, but of course this was based upon a previous SAT score of 1810 (equivalent to 1260). does anyone think i have a good chance of getting into uci, ucsb, or ucd?

thanks

I agree with your counselor. It's your GPA that will be an issue at the mid tier UCs. Average GPA is about 4.0 at all of them.

High Reach: UCLA, UCB

Reach: UCSD

Match: UCI, UCD, UCSB

Safety: UCSC, UCR, UCM

By the way....an 1840 is not equivilent to a 1320. It's not even close. an 1840 is about a 1220.

Bondsfan, you don't know that his score isn't equivalent to a 1320. To find out what a new score is equivalent to, you just subtract the writing score. So, if he got 520 on the Writing, then yes, his score is equivalent to a 1320- because the math and verbal make up a 1320.

Yes...but the UC's don't care about verbal+ math equivilency. The UC's are one of the few schools that just add them all up into one number and work with that. So the verbal and math may be equivilent to a 1320, but the entire test, which is what actually matters, is equivilent to a 1220. Howeve, I will admit that at many other competitive schools, only the math and verbal will count....but not for the UC's!

but see the thing is the numbers mean nothing without the percentile ranking. and because it is the first year with the new sat there are no percentage info on the writing section, my counselor was mainly looking at verbal and math scores during my session. she said a 1300 is a breaking point or something. so without the percentil ranking for all of the sections i think they will only look at the math/verbal

If you look at the numbers, your match schools are only UCR, UCSC and probably Merced. UCs are gettinh harder every year, have backups!
