Is your 3.86 GPA weighted or unweighted? If it is weighted, then it wouldn’t be very easy for you to get in (though certainly still possible). If it is unweighted, then you seem like a pretty good candidate for admission at NCSU.

Excellent…it’s unweighted. The applicaiton would also be backed with the NROCT scholarship. Don’t know if that would matter or not.

If the projected SAT bottomed out at 1910 and the composiet ACT 30, would that help at all.

I ask because I know coming from OOS into NC is not an easy task. You really have to love your state when they consider your kids first.

Oops, now that I reread the first sentence of your post, it seems that you are posting this for your son as opposed to yourself. Oh well, just replace all the "you"s in my other post with “he” or “him”. Haha.

Anyway, I have no idea what that scholarship does for his admission chances. But I think his other credentials are right in the ballpark for NC State. NC State’s engineering programs are very prestigious, so I assume it is harder to get into that department than the others at NCSU. I’m not sure exactly what the admissions standards are for engineering applicants. But I imagine your son’s stats should be up there with the other applicants.

Yes, it is true that out-of-state admissions to NC schools is quite difficult; but I don’t think NC State is absurdly competitive for out-of-state applicants. If we were talking about UNC-Chapel Hill, that would be a different story.

A 1910 SAT score and 30 ACT score would be above the 75th percentile for NCSU students. If your son can receive those scores, then I would be rather surprised if he got rejected by the school’s general admissions. When referring to the engineering department specifically, I’m not sure how competitive admissions to the department are for out-of-state applicants.

I alos get caught up in writting… When I’m writing about him I will often put I, me, my, you get the photo.

I use the forum because it’s his walk. When he comes to me I’ll put something out here to see what I could get back for guidance.

Thank you for the help.

He wants an SAT of 2100 and ACT combo of 32. We shall see!

Well, no one else seems to be coming to this thread to give you a second opinion. But if you have any more questions, just ask me and I’ll see if I know anything.

I think he is in with the 1810 SAT and 3.8 GPA…It puts him near the 75th percentile since the 75th is at 1890…

Eng is more competitive, but think 3.8 GPA and a 1900 SAT would ice it.
Also need to show character in the essays.

My S 3.65 GPA competitive (private) school and SAT 1970 (M700, R670) accepted to eng in February.

NCSU is not going to be any more difficult out of state than in state because the OOS population at NCSU is only at 10%. It would have to be at 18% for them to start rejecting more OOS people.
