Dear juicyjuice7 : An unweighted GPA socre of 4.0 with a weighted GPA score of 4.1 demonstrates a really small incremental gain from the weighting which leads one to believe that you are not doing well on a day-in/day-out basis in your AP courses. Also, it is difficult to know how your GPA range is evaluated. Your top 5% performance is positive despite our interpretation of the numbers.

If you have seen my reviews on chance-me threads before, you know what is coming next. Your ACT score at 28 is going to be a really huge problem. Boston College’s ACT composite range places this score into the bottom quartile of acceptance profiles. There is just no way this score will be accepted during the Early Admissions process. At best, this score will be deferred into the main pool for regular decision. Even during regular decision, this score is dicey. Is this the best composite that you managed to achieve from either the ACT or SAT tests? If so, perhaps Boston College might not be the right place academically for you.

Your AP curriculum appears deep with scores of four or better in three of fours courses listed. (You must have completed other courses - for example, you would not take Calculus AB and Calculus BC as a senior year student. Our guess is that those scores were not 3 or better - you can correct us if needed.) These scores fly in the face of the ACT 28, however, BC uses AP scores for placement only, not as part of the acceptance process.

Your early sports experience does bounce around from season to season without long term commitment until cross country skiing. This is really not a three-season sport which will open you up for comparison against many other candidates with three-season activities.

On the leadership front, it would be nice to know more about how the blood drive or medical supplies drive might have tied into your shadowing a doctor this year. (What does shadowing actually entail in terms of work load and time commitment?)

In closing, you have many great attributes that would fit the Boston College community. However, questions about your “best board score” linger with me even after this review. Honestly, if BC’s application class turns out to be strong this year, your application might encounter substantial headwinds. Our advice is to be prepared with strong second and safer options just in case.

thanks for your candid reply.

to clarify a few things:

my school just started weighting gpas this year. ( hence the 4.0 and 4.1) I have recieved one B+ in my highschool career. (weight training hahah)

yes, i do not perform well on the act, however i don’t believe myself to be academically compromised.

i am being truthful about the ap classes i have taken and the scores i have recieved. the classes i have not attached a score to are classes i am taking NOW. yes, I am taking AP Calculus as a senior.

as far as my athletics, cross country (xc) and nordic skiing (xc skiing) are two completely different sports that are two different seasons.

as far as the shadowing goes, i spend 5 hours a week with a cardiologist observing patients and the the procedures done on them. i will be doing this my entire senior year.

hope this clears some things up. thanks for your input.
