Chances @ U of Pitt? Anyone kind enough to respond?

I'm a highschool junior, love the university of pittsburgh, and would like to know my chances of getting accepted.
Here are my stats:
SAT: 580w 600m 590v ehh i know ..not so great, but hopefully a higher score in june
GPA: around 84% un-weighted 90% weighted
EC: Lots of music( marching band-section leader -clarinets, jazz band-piano, wind ensemble, orchestra, pit orchestras),drama, volunteer work @ hospital, volunteer work @ school w/ special ed. students, softball for 2 years in highschool.
APs/Honors: Took AP US History this year, and AP English (havnt found out scores yet- just took them last week and this week, honors math, honors french, honors chemistry.

Please be honest :) Thanks!

looks pretty good, they have a pretty decently good admission rate, u got a lot of varied ECs which is good, the APs should help u out, try to bring up ur english score- im guessin ur better at that than math since ur takin ap eng

hope this helped

I had essentially the same stats, In-state and was completely rejected by Pitt.

scigirl, you definately need to improver your SATs. The ECs will definately help you, especially if you have a good story from one of them... Pitt admissions loves good essays. And apply early. Are you in-state?

My essay was quite good to say the least. I was told they probably threw it out.

Please do not be bitter, loslobos71.

If your numbers weren't anywhere close to being acceptable, then they probably wouldn't waste the time to look at your essay. Other than that, essays are quite an important aspect in the Pitt application.

My school is a 'Pitt feeder' so to speak. We send probably 30% to Pitt each year. I didnt exactly do outstanding, but I thought I did well enough where I had a decent shot. Flat out rejection? Bunch of BS. Especially when I expressed interest to the East Coast rep. who said Pitt would love to have me. I'm sure that doesnt mean anything though. All that being said, i'm not bitter. I got into a better school, which was my first choice anyway. A big 'whatever'. I guess I have the luxury of knowing now where my kids certainly wont be going.

Pat: No I'm out-of-state, do u think that would work agains me?

It depends. Pitt gets a lot of students from surrounding states like Ohio, WV, VA, NY, MD, DC, DE, and NJ. If you're from one of those states, it probably won't help. If you're from another state, you might get a boost because Pitt is looking to add more diversity. But no matter where you're from, you have to improve those SATs if you want a shot.

Yes...thanks for the info

Ok so a few more questions,
I want to continue with music in college, but not so sure if there are opportunities to play if not a music major...i hope to go into biology/pre-med.
..any info on concert bands at Pitt or orchestras?

There are tons of ways to get involved in musical performances! Check it out:
http://www.music.pitt.edu/performance/index.html

And I know I sound like a broken record here, but pre-med majors are very popular and very difficult to get into at Pitt. Study HARD for your next SATs.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

New SATs...M 600 V 630 W 630
...Do i have a better chance??

An improvement of 90 points can't hurt, you're definately closer to the average now. Are you planning to take them again? Also, do you know your class rank? And what state are you from?

ny...top 23 % out of class size around 800...I'm not sure if im taking sats again

scigirl: do you only want to attend the main campus in Pittsburgh? If you want to go to any of their branch campuses (Titusville, Johnstown {It's beautiful!}), you're in. Pitt is much harder to get into now than when I was applying (in the last millennia!),

Yea...the main campus is my goal
...does it help to be out of state , and also a 1st gen. college student at Pitt??
