Chances? Will return the favor. Columbia, Brown, UChicago, WUSTL, Rice, Tulane

^ haha agreed

Columbia - Reach
Brown - low reach
UChicago - Reach
WUSTL - match
Rice - match
Tulane - in

ask your guidance counselor to explain the class rank issue in his/her rec.

I think you have good chances... Your SAT scores are good and you have a very good array of EC's.. The only thing I see that may be a small problem is your GPA.. This one's weighted isn't it? What is your unweighted? I think that you'd be in at Rice... Columbia is a reach, but never give up! :D [please chance me too btw :)]

I think this thread is kind of ridiculous. This is not the national merit scholarship competition where people in Mississippi are viewed on lower standards than everyone else. I don't really believe Coldwind's (no offense) assertions that you are in basically anywhere solely because of your location and I also think your GPA and SAT are to low to really call any of those schools "almost safety". Some of them may very well be matches though. Your ECs look very good but its been said over and over again that grades are the most important thing, ECs are only used to differentiate between similarly qualified canidates.

Columbia and Brown are reaches. Go for it!
In at Tulane i'm sure...
Rice-match

Yeah, i know most of those schools are reaches. I'm expecting to get into Tulane(though i wouldn't call it a safety) and i'd be completely stoked to get into really any of the other schools. I'm not really following a Safety, Match, Reach formula or anything. I'm approaching it as an EA match (that i would be completely happy at) with a bunch of Reach applications if i get in to Tulane EA(Im already working on/completed the other apps but if i for some reason didn't get into Tulane early i would just quickly apply to a few less competetive schools.)

Thanks for the good reviews so far

Columbia - Reach
Brown - between a match and a reach (apply! you have a chance)
UChicago - match
WUSTL - between a match and a reach
Rice - not sure
Tulane - safety

I think if you have a well-written essay, you can probably get into Brown Univ.

So there's been a lot of talk about my state, what would my chances be if i were from a state like New York or Illinois?

If you want me to chance you back, please leave a link or something so i can find your thread.

"I would think that recommendations would neutralize if not turn around any doubts concerning your class rank. If your teachers know that you're intellectually engaged, then IMO you're set."

Anybody else agree with this?

"Your EC's are awesome. Not even from a college standpoint, just a life standpoint."

well, thank you

i'm looking for another low/match(i don't like the word safety). I'm looking for something similar in admissions competitiveness to Tulane. Preferably in or near a fairly large city(100,000+ people), preferably a common app school or one that doesn't require teacher recs(i just don't like having to ask teachers for them, especially having to ask for them in an email because im 5000 miles away), an anthropology major, and a nice laid back intelectual vibe. I don't really care about prestige and would consider really any kind of school: private, public, LAC, whatever. Well, thanks

Your scores/gpa are lower, but your resume and ec's are good, so I think your set. Columbia, brown are reaches, Chicago based on essays.

Chance me: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/579037-what-i-can-t-get.html

"Your scores/gpa are lower, but your resume and ec's are good, so I think your set."

Are they just low for columbia or for the others as well?

just post a link if you want me to review you.

bump..........................

Agree with majority of the other posters, but University of Chicago is definitely not a match, more of a high reach in fact (4.5+ WGPA). University of Illinois at Chicago would be high match, though they're two entirely different schools.
