<p>I’d say it’s worth a shot, particularly if you show exceptional ability in an area (e.g., ACT 36 English/writing) and can express your ideas effectively. Also, a lot might depend on the applicant pool you’re up against this year. Finally, there’s the character-in-the-arena component. Your tact under pressure, so to speak. As far as the admissions committee is concerned, fall short of that threshold and one can take his MENSA membership and shove it. Although even here there are exceptions (i.e., 69WakeForest420???). </p>
