Chances?

This discussion was created from comments split from: What are my chances to Exeter, Phillips Academy, Groton, and Kent with a lower SSAT?.

Is this true? I am applying to 6 schools (Hotchkiss, Andover, Groton, Deerfield and Choate) and I did very poorly on the ssat (61 overall). I have all A’s at a private school, I play goalie in soccer and lacrosse at the club level, and I have been involved in the National Team for soccer. I play for the best club in New Jersey for lacrosse. I do a ton of traveling (been to all 7 continents) and I work really closely with a charity. I am applying for 9th grade. I did extremely well on the interviews and everything has gone well except for my ssat. Do I still have a chance to get into one school?

Have you been in touch with the coaches? That SSAT score is a stretch without a major amount of support from the coaches. Which lacrosse club team is the best in NJ?

@keneve6 A back-up plan is good for everyone to have, and I would strongly encourage that for you. The schools to which you applied receive many applications from kids that have near-perfect grades and test scores, and many of those kids are not admitted. If you are eager to attend boarding school you can check out the Boarding School Review website and search for schools with rolling admissions to widen your net. Additionally there will likely be schools that will still have spots after M10 and A10 which can also be found on the SSAT website under their “Open Seat Listing Feature”. Hopefully this won’t be necessary, but just in case its good to know how you can pivot if necessary. Best of luck to you!

Always have a backup plan. The schools you applied to are very competitive, and a 60% is about 30% below their average. Good luck!

Sadly, those scored are gonna bring your chances down; however, your athletic experience should make a significant impact! Good luck!

I have been in touch with all of the coaches.

Do you think I have a chance of getting into one school? (total)
