Chances?

Heres the deal. On my application my first choice major was Fine Arts. However, i never applied to the college/auditioned and my second choice was liberal arts undeclared (which, as we all know, is basically UTs back-up major). So are my chances better of getting in since my second choice was such a basic major? My SAT was decent (1230) and i'm a fairly good student however am in about top 33% at a large competitive highschool. I still have a link to the college of liberal arts on my application status page so i've heard thats reason for a little hope. In the end i just wanna hear from them AND SOON!

Yeah I applied to fine arts as well.... Are you possitive that you have to audition for a freshman applicant? .... We are kinda in the same boat.....1220 sat... top 20% .... My link changed to liberal arts so Im 80% sure that means I didn't get into my first choice major- studio art (based on speaking to admissions)... and I'm still waiting to here back....

Honestly, I know I will get CAPed. It sounds like we are both on the border... and most likely there will not be enough space. I think the only thing that would save me is that my school is very competitive and has a good rep with ut... i think last year like around 220 people applied and about 50 were CAPed/"rejected"... that class was just over 1000 students tho.

Anyway... I'll get to the point and let you know what admissions said about when we will find out (called this afternoon)....

"You will know by the end of this week (friday?) ... and AT LEAST before april 1st".

Goodluck!

by the way... let me know if you here anything.. i really want to know if that link is correct.... and what school do you go to ?

so do we find out b4 friday or b4 april 1st?

ha she wasn't too clear about that... I think she meant their goal was to get them all finished by friday.... but if they don't .. april 1st

I talked to admissions today. They are hoping to get most decisions out by this Friday.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE. 1 day down...(a maximum of) 4 to go.

i say.... if we all get in ... we have a party...

if we all get CAPed... we have a party

well i was going in for music so i had to have an audition, but yeah i go to kingwood and we have about 960 or so in my class. Its pretty ridiculous i mean i have a 4.112 (or so) GPA and am about 334 its outrageous. Yeah, i'd prefer not to get CAPed, cause i mean if i'm not in to austin i doubt i'll be rejected outright. I'm kind of relying on my resume/essays (which i'm not too confident about) and letters of recommendation. So yeah, that'd be amazing to know this week especially if the outcome is what i want! haha

but defenitley a go for the party. Have any system schools in mind? I was thinking probably UTSA if i decided to do that

I'm with you on that, Kep. Kingwood High School is ridiculous. I have a 4.5 and am not in the top 10%. I really hope they consider the school you come from when they look at your class rank.

Well when i talked to the admissions people (of the music school) she recognized kingwood as a tough school. So i hope so...they better or we'll march on down there and shake austin up! haha

Wow, I used to live in Kingwood when I was younger. Now I live in Sugar Land and go to a very competitive high school as well. Kids cheat their way into top 10%, would do almost anything to to have an 89 changed to a 90 for semester averages, etc.

It pretty much sucks for all us Houston kids who live in places like SL, Kingwood, The Woodlands, Katy, Clearbrook, etc.

They recognized my high school too. My HS is one of the top feeder schools for UT and when I told one of the counselors I went there she said they get a lot of applicants from my school blah blah blah.

whoa, 4.5 GPA and not in the top 10%? Does your valedictorian has a perfect GPA? Does your highschool offer a bunch of AP/Honors classes?

I really feel for you guys those who have high GPA and not in the top 10% :(

My school really sucks :( I have a 4.3 GPA and I'm 5th in my class :(

Yeah I'm from the woodlands... right now we have about 887 kids in our class because we built college park hs..... But its sounds like kingwood is much more competitive that us... because i have a 4.24... and im at 20% ... but I think they do look at the school you have come from... i read an article about it. anyway ..goodluck

yeah im thinking about ut arlington... just because utsa doesn't appeal to me very much.. but we shall see!

but hey i mean if you get caped its not the end of the world... if one year will give you 3 years at austin.. i think its a pretty good deal....

I go to small school that sucks i would rather go to a more competitive school outside of the top ten people at my school no one cares i have a 4.414 and im number 10 out of 387..... i go to Caney Creek kristinlrn...

I have the college of liberal arts as my link on the application status but thats my second choice and i heard that thats also the link if you've been "CAP'ed" so is it bad or good? Or should i just sit here biting my fingernails which is what i have a feeling most of us are doing, haha

Don't say that unless you know how gay it is to be worried about getting into UT, even though you know your SATS/ACTS/APs are far superior to 60%+ of the top 10% people.

And sar what scale do you guys use for UW gpas.. we are on a 4.5 scale, so 4.5 and not top 10 sounds ridiculous.

And Libby, please don't ever consider Clear Brook a competitive high school.. it isn't at all compared to Clear Lake.. I would be at least top 8 or 7% there, where as I am top 13.5% at my school.

fo sho clearbrook...lol

well.... the theory is that the link means your application is being tried for liberal arts - undeclared... it doesnt mean that your in or out yet or caped... it also has not be completely confirmed... but after talking to admissions 3 times.... each person I talked to hinted that the link was an indication of that... but sounded like they couldn't acutally tell me... I think its right though... im about 90% sure now.... because i also talked to the school of fine arts and I asked them if they already notifed all fine art applicants about acceptances... and they said "We did turn in all of our results to the admissions office... but I am not sure how or when they let students know..." And around the beginning of march I heard from 3 different fine art students that got in.... and also around that time is when my link changed....

so that convinced me

so would a COLA link meen less likely to get into UT austin or does it just mean that you've been CAP'ed cause i've heard both and its very frightening. I JUST WANT TO KNOW!

our unweighted GPAa are out of 4.0 but they aren't used to figure out class rank. I just recently got an updated transcript today and my GPA was 4.51 and I am ranked 203/96something. I was told by my counselor that my GPA range is popular and that people are ranked alphabetically in the 4.4-4.5 range because there are some many kids with the exact same GPA...which basically sucks if you're in the latter part of the alphabet. So if I don't get into UT...I'm blaming KHS.
