Chances

Hello, I know most of you don't like the chances posts, but please bear with me. I'm very nervous because they're freezing the enrollment.

This is my first post on CC. I'll just give you a short background on myself first:
I just graduated highschool, I finished all of my credits a year and 1/2 early (unfortunately giving me a weak senior schedule of mostly 1/2 credits) but graduated with the class of '07. (Meaning I officially am a year early grad)
I'm taking a year off to save up money, hopefully do some traveling, and some volunteer work. (I really hope FSU doesn't look negatively at most of this.)
I am applying for enrollment this August for the fall of '08.

My fsu weighted gpa is between 4.0 and 4.1
my SAT cr+m is 1290 (I'm taking it again to at least get the 1300)
I have 178 volunteer hours.

Senior Schedule:

English Honors IV
Latin I
Writing I
SAT prep
Law Studies
Psychology
Sociology
World Religions
Keyboarding

I have few extra curriculars, mainly because I was only in school for 2 1/2 years. (3 years officially)

Drama club 9th & 10th grade
Dance classes
Worked at Firehouse Subs 10-15 hours per week.
Worked at Outback Steakhouse 25-35 hours per week.

Apart of the National Honor Roll
National Society of High School Scholars
and Talented 20

I haven't taken any AP courses, but I've taken all of the honors courses available.

As long as I raise my SAT score 10pts, do you think it is likely that they will reject someone who qualifies for their honors program? Do you think I will at least get in for the summer? Have you ever heard of/know anyone who qualified for honors and got rejected?

It is hard to say what admissions will be like next year with the freeze but I think you still should have an excellent chance to be admitted with your grades and SAT score. Perhaps you can pass a few CLEP exams or take some CC courses to show you are capable of doing college level work since you said you did not do any AP/IB or dual enrollment classes previously.

I agree! I'm definitely considering taking some CLEP exams.

Your SAT score looks fine; the grades look respectable. You may not get an offer to Honors unless you get a 1300+, which is a minimum. I believe the qualification score for Honors varies with each class and its been rising with the general SAT average. Your course work could be stronger, but a higher SAT or ACT may compensate for the lack of APs. Please consider taking the ACT as well.

Apply as early as you can, and perhaps meet with an admissions officer to see if a scholarship may be available or even an advantageous financial aid package.

Honestly, it looks like you're working too much for a full-time student!

Thanks for the advice! I've already taken the ACT, didn't do very well. I did much better with the SAT. I think I wrote my hourly work a bit confusingly- I never worked at firehouse or outback at the same time. I worked at firehouse 10-15 hrs during the school year, and Outback 25-35 after I completed my credits in December, and stopped attending school. haha I don't think I could handle a 50 hour/week jobs + school.

I think you're just about good to go. Nothing to worry about.

Thank you, I hope so!
