hey guys I want to attend a university for a year and then try to transfer to Stern at the end of first year (so i'll be applying next fall).

I want to ask how hard is it to transfer into Stern from another school? Is there a percentage? and class requirements?

i'm debating between attending Boston U or CUNY Baruch in the city for my first and/or second year before trying to transfer to NYU Stern.

Which one should I go to? Does it matter?

Let's say I choose BU (have to pay around 20k a year), and i get a 3.0

versus Baruch (free tuition) and i get a 3.5 GPA?

which one would Stern likely accept? Does the college's name really matter?

Thanks a lot guys .. lots of questions and sorry !

and what if it's 3.5 at both schools? How would that change the acceptance percentage?

please someone help

I really doubt that anyone really knows. But you can generally assume that with equal GPAs, the more competitive school will likely give you a better edge. But based on the 'wisdom' floating around these boards, it is also not clear that a 3.5 would give you a lock...

Your best bet might be to call admissions office and see what they can tell you and what data they can provide.

thanks for replying

i have called them but they keep giving me answers that i already know. they themselves are not so sure about transfers either... which is frustrating...

if anyone knows about the transfers process, please help.

no offense but i don't think a 3.5 at either will do unless you have some kind of talent or extracurricular stuff. i would try for like 3.8

if i'm at BU, i won't be able to get a good internship but at Baruch since I stay in the city, I have several internships that I can choose from ...

about the 3.8, i'm pretty sure I can get that at Baruch but definitely not at BU...

psh you can get them in Boston. it's not like no one does business in boston

the thing is i have connections in new york for internships because of previous jobs and at school, im part of goldman sachs internship program.

Listen-Goldman Sachs is Goldman Sachs. That is superb, and is worth more than BU imho. Go to Baruch save money, and apply to Stern with a 3.9. It will still be tough. This year they had 1,190 transfer apps ans 90 places.....so no matter what your chances are not very good.
