Other Stuff

I attend a competitive private school and have taken/will have taken a handful of honors and Ap classes by the end of HS

My recs and essays should be very good and I plan to major in English.

Any chances at all are greatly appreciated! (I know no one really WANTS to respond to these threads, haha.)

How are you grades for math and science classes? Kenyon does look for well rounded applicants...and your ACT scores for M and S are semi-low. Also, Kenyon has tons of English major applicants, so your competition will be loaded with well qualified students. I would apply for sure, as you sound like a good fit, just be certain to have a few other schools you would enjoy attending if things don't work out (the same could be said for all applicants).

As you are into music and play in a band, check into the Horn at Kenyon. I think you may be a bit more inspired for your why Kenyon essay, and the adcom will love it.

I get mostly A/A-'s in math, but I haven't taken any advanced courses. In the sciences I do about the same, but I'm more passionate for them and have taken honors level classes. I'll have 6 science credits by the end of HS.

Also, I plan on taking the ACT again in September to bring up those M and S scores. (Does Kenyon superscore the ACT? Because I have slightly higher M and S scores on a previous ACT, although the composite was lower.)

Thanks for the advice about the Horn. I'll check that out. And thanks for responding!

Hey...

Yes, MolBioAce does have a point there...there will be lots of english majors applying since Kenyon has an incredibly good english department. You have to focus on how you're going to present yourself on front of the admissions committee---really really really work on your essay. Kenyon is heavy on that, and if you want to show your writing capability there, it'd be a great opportunity.

Remember, you want to look different and interesting, not placing you in the "grey area." When I applied last year, I tried to highlight the unique aspects of myself and what i've done in hs.

Hopefully this helps, but you have to remember, you'll never know why they choose you or reject you. I wonder to this day why they accepted me!
