Chances......

Okay, so I admit I used to find these chance threads very annoying and it seemed like everyone posting just wanted acknowledgment of their amazingness and were fishing for compliments, but I am so sick of waiting that I'm wondering if someone could chance me for Duke......okay, here I go:

SAT I: 2200
GPA uw: 3.87
-I don't know rank, but I go to a competitive college prep school in St. Paul, Minnesota and have taken the most rigorous course load available and plan to take another math class this summer (which I noted in my "additional information" section).

Varsity sports:
Soccer - 4 years (all conference 3 years, captain senior year, top GPA on team - academic excellence award)
Basketball - 4 years (captain 2 years, all-conference 3 years, about 1,700 pts. in career - all-time leading scorer @ my school)
Track -4 years, various awards, all-conference 2 years, hold 1600m record (but just for girls haha).

EC:
Math Club (club leader 11, 12)
Science Club (leader 11, 12)
MOSAIC Diversity Club (leader 11,12)
Environmental Club (Leader 11,12)
Amnesty International
Tutors' Guild

300+ hours of community service (including service trips to Mexico and Tanzania, wrote about Tanzania for CommonApp essay)
-various projects on my reservation; raise money and awareness at my school

Jobs:
US Soccer certified referee - grade 8 (since 10th grade)
job at German Christmas store since beginning of 11th grade

Essays:
I really liked all of them. As I said, main one is about what I learned in Tanzania.
Why Pratt was quite personal as well as demonstrative of my "knowledge" of Duke and why it's a good fit, so I liked it....:)
<--If you want to read any of these, just PM me and give me some feedback.

Other Factors:
American Indian and quite involved with my tribe. I've spoken with Stanford's "liaison" to Native applicants quite a bit, developed a quite good relationship, I don't know if this helps at all, but I'm pretty sure she is on the adcom.

Chance me for these schools as well (if you want to):
-Washington University in St. Louis
-Duke
-Northwestern
-Vanderbilt

Stanford and WU are my top choices for sure. Also, do you think I have any chances at getting invites to any of these schools "multicultural weekends" or a likely letter? I dunno.....any input is appreciated! Wado!

What do you guys think? And, honestly, I am not trying to fish for compliments, I'm just very anxious! Thanks for reading this and good luck to all!!

And, regarding recs, all were pretty fantastic. I haven't read them, but a school at which I have been accepted called me and said they were fantastic......I know all three people quite well.....

---->In<----

Thanks, :D!

Ah, one more thing…I had an interview with a Duke alum a few weeks ago and it went really well. We talked about a lot of things, but my Native American heritage was brought up when I was talking about MOSAIC. He said that Duke may be very interested in this because most of their Native applicants come from around Duke, so the fact that I am from Minnesota and so involved may help me a lot. I also saw that currently there are only 15 Native undergrads at Duke. Do you think this means anything or do you think I’m just getting my hopes up?

I think with you have a great shot at the schools you have applied to (Stanford being the long shot/reach for ANYONE) and your Native American heritage is a plus. I seems that this year schools are asking for proof of enrollment. (I have seen this question on a couple of forums). It sounds like you are active with your tribe, so assuming you are enrolled and can easily provide this information, I think it is a huge plus. I assume if you check the ethnicity box and are not enrolled this is a negative, but have no facts to back up this assumption. Good luck!

Yes, I am definitely enrolled and, actually, they only college that wanted proof of this is Stanford (they just had a small follow-up form, but they didn’t actually want any documentation) and UW-Seattle (documentation) and I have been accepted there! I have contacted all other schools and they told me that they did not want anything, but were happy of my asking.

Wow, your stats are more impressive than I have originally thought (I never really saw them until now). I say that you are a definite IN. Your SAT scores and your extracurriculars alone could probably get you in. Very very impressive. Are you a girl (you kinda talk like one)? Also what do you want to major in, if its engineering or something and you are a girl that would help a lot too. Good luck.

Lol, kind of talk like one? haha, yes, I am a girl, hence the “dpattzlover” (Robert Pattinson and Daniel Radcliffe, though I suppose I could be a guy as well based on that). But, yeah, I applied to Pratt with the hope of going into BME. You think this will help me more? Cool. And, again, thanks for the encouragement!
