Hi,
I'll be applying next year. I'm currently a junior. What are my chances at LSA?

3.9 GPA in honors/AP
1930 New SAT I but may retake
27 ACT but am retaking and know I can raise it to at least 29

many extracurriculars/leadership positions

in state, white

What was your math/verbal breakdown? I really have no guage of the new SAT.

As for your numbers, they look fine. I don't think you're going to have any problems.

Is your 3.9 weighed or unweighed? If it is unweighed, ou have a shot. But if it is weighed, your chances are not as good.

unweighted......I have a 4.0 unweighted right now but am anticipating a few Bs this semester

My GPA was lower than that, I think (I don't really remember too well because it doesn't matter anymore). Where I made up for it was my commitment to FBLA in school as well as my business initiative outside of school (as well as a lot of internet based communities I've managed). Just remember that numbers aren't everything.

Iciclerose, apply in September, and you have a decent chance. If you can raise your SAT by 100 points or your ACT composite by 2 points, you have a better chance.

Alexandre, what would the average admission stats (GPA and SAT) be for an out of state applicant?
Also, will a high writing score on the SAT be factored in to the process or are they primarily concerned with the verbal and math scetions?
Thank you

For out of staters, ean unweighed GPA is probably around the 3.8-3.9 range. Mean SAT is roughly 1330-1350 (old format) and class rankings are usually among the top 5%.

Icicle, aren't you a national figure skating champion? You have a great chance. I got into engineering when I sent my app in on valentines day with a 1330 and 25% class rank (don't know how). If you apply early you will be fine.

yes...lol...i forgot to put that in this post

your gpa really doesn't have to be a 3.8-3.9 unweighted at all. 14 kids got in from my school and maybe 2 of them had a 3.8 unweighted, the rest lower than that by far. i personally had a ~3.6 unweighted with a mid 1300s SAT and i got in. a really important thing to do is make sure if your gpa isn't that good is to have a bunch of honors and ap classes; those really help u out. APPLY EARLY!!!

IcicleRose, that is a pretty big hook you merely "forgot"! LOL Ok, your chances are obviously much improved. Your ECs and GPA are awesome. I would still recommend a slightly higher ACT/SAT. But if you apply in September, I think your chances are very solid.

BigRed, you probably go to a top High School. My High School was similar to yours. But if you go to a typical high school, a 3.6 GPA will most likely not get you into Michigan.

I just got my ACT scores from June and my composite is a 30. I believe this improves my chances quite a bit, up from a 27.

3.9 unweighed GPA Michigan mean is 3.8), 30 on the ACT (Michigan mean is 29), nationally ranked ice-skater... IcicleRose, unless something strange happens, if you apply in late August or early September, you should get a thick envelope containing good news sometime in October. You go girl...you done me proud. LOL
