Hi everyone!
I’m planning to transfer to UCD next fall. I was wondering if it is possible to switch to a non-selective/impacted major, once I transfer. Additionally, I would like to know if Davis requires upper division GE courses, or if you simply complete major/minor/elective courses, once you reach junior standing.
Can anyone help me?

I think I can help!

I just transferred from a junior college this past fall. For the College of Letters and Sciences, there is only one upper division GE course that I can think of, which is Advanced Composition for the Undergraduate Writing Program (although if you pass the written exam, you don’t have to take the course). Other than that, if you’ve completed the IGETC curriculum, then all you really need to take are major, minor, and elective classes! :)

Also, it is definitely possible to change your major, especially to a non-selective one. Once you’re accepted, you cannot change your major until your second quarter (Winter). I applied as an English major but changed my mind over the summer, so in the fall I took classes as if I were already a History major. Then, during the first week of the Winter quarter, I had both advisers from the History and English departments sign a “Change of Major” form and submitted it to Undergrad Advising that day. One week later, I was officially a History major!

Nothing is set in stone, and the best part about transferring is spending most of your time taking major classes! I don’t have a minor, so I just take whatever electives sound fun! :)

Good luck!
