Change me for a few VA schools (low gpa, high sat/act)

I’m a senior at a high school in northern Virginia

My top 4 schools and majors are Virginia Tech (business IT), JMU (comp sci), VCU (engineering), gmu (cybersecurity)

Gpa: 3.13 (it’ll probably be 3.3 by the end of first semester)

Sat: 1490

Act: 31, but I took it recently and felt better (maybe 32-33)

Extracurriculars: international club, south Asian association, key club, robotics, some volunteering, interning at my dads software company

Other:
I’m an asian male applying for stem majors, so that probably wouldn’t help.

I have a brother that goes to VT.

All my teachers recommendations should be good.

Even thought my grades overall have been low, they have been increasing over time, so that might make it look at least a little better.

I’m a junior in high school, but I’ve had relatives and friends go to schools like UVA/W&M/Vtech/VCu/JMU/GMU. I’m not an expert, but I think GMU/JMU/VCU should be matches/safety and V-tech a low reach. I also go to school in northern virginia :stuck_out_tongue:

Your chances are low.
The majors you want are super competitive and 3.1, 3.2 is going to be problematic despite a top sat score.
Your best shot is Engineering at VCU but it’s far from a safety.
You need to find two affordable safeties and 2-3 matches, perhaps at private universities that don’t admit by major if they’re affordable (run the NPC).

I think you have a very good shot at GMU, VCU, and JMU. Check your school’s Naviance regarding VA Tech.
You might also want to apply to Christopher Newport as a safety.
